I think this picture, although showing many of the facets of the evacuation, is not strictly accurate. For example the men wouldn't be lining up in straight lines.Even so I think this is a fair interpretation of the evacuation of Dunkirk. George Dean ...read more.

    It was the time of cowards' lies and self-heroism. These soldiers would rape woman to distract them from the pressure they were undergoing and looting was not unknown. The men died un-heroic deaths. The source provides us with the bad things about Dunkirk and opens the eyes of British that Dunkirk was not a shining miracle but a heroic failure.

    Due to the large no. of people in the photos I don't think they are fake and they coincide with my own knowledge in parts. I think the source may be bias as the author is unknown but was probably taken by the allies as no Germans would have been at the Dunkirk beaches during the evacuation.

    An additional source which demonstrates the nature of the evacuation is by Allan Bullock from "Hitler and Stalin." The source gives details of the German's mistakes and the advantage it gave to Britain to make plans for a well ordered evacuation.

    Finally the last aspect of defeat that could also be considered the most important is the Demoralisation of troops and Civilians. Many troops did not want to continue the war, as they felt exhausted and tired. The evacuation had been long and hard as it stretched to 9 days.

    This consists of two photographs which depict the beaches and seas of Dunkik. They show bodies and debris scattered over the beach the distribution of the debris presnt seems to portray the disunification of the army that has retreated. there are sunken ships, and does not seem to be any kind of organised structure to facilitate evacuation.
