Assignment 1 Why were major British cities bombedThe effects of the blitz on every day life in BritainPropaganda During the second world war civilians were involved as well as soldiers.  As part of the conflict Britain and Germany bombed each others major cities.  People in both countries had to cope with the effects of these air raids.  In Britain the bombing of the cities was known as “The Blitz”.  Some people write about “The Blitz” as a time when the British people showed great cheerfulness and courage.  They say their morale was good.  Other writers believe that much of what was said and written about the high morale of the British is a myth created by the government’s propaganda.  This essay details my interpretations on the civilians and governments role in “The Blitz“. The Luftwaffe was complacent under the command of Herman Goering who believed or just boasted that the RAF would be destroyed within four days. He may have had reason to think this as the Luftwaffe had more pilots and planes but what was quantity when Britain had quality? The Spitfire was the best battle plane as it was faster, could stay flying longer and had more fire power. Britain had many other advantages over the Luftwaffe and these were why we stood up to the Luftwaffe so well. We had radar and the Germans did not, we could refuel more easily and

Hurricanes and Spitfires intercepted the German planes but losses were high with pilots being lost faster than they could be replaced.
