The Second World War was more successful than the New Deal in ending the Depression

This is certainly an opinion that many would agree with, and many would not. The New Deal was very effective in some people’s opinions, but others would say it was quite futile in it’s attempt at ending the Great Depression. People will always have different opinions on this subject, but who is right?

The New Deal was successful in ending the depression in many ways; firstly it restored people’s confidence in the American government. This meant that that The Depression did not lead to extreme movements like Communism and Nazism. It also meant that people would back the policies of the government, meaning that the country could get out of the Depression with far less obstacles.

The New Deal also produced many new resources like roads, hospitals, railroads, schools, and power stations. If it were not for the alphabet agencies these resources would not have been created. These resources not only made it easier for America to function more smoothly, but they created construction jobs, teaching jobs, medical jobs, and various others. This all surely helped in escaping the depression.

For a country to function well, it needs a good banking system, and Roosevelt’s New Deal saved the American banking system. When Hoover was in charge, the banks were failing miserably, so when FDR came into power, he knew he would have to do something about it. As soon as he came into office, he announced a bank holiday so that he could hire accountants, examiners and bankers to examine every bank in America’s loans and assets.
