Plan of task

I have been asked to produce recording sheets for each event at the school sports day. These are sheets on which teachers can write the information about an event and the results of the participants down. Also I have been asked to write a list of instructions for the teachers to use when I have gone, so that they too can reproduce the sheets with different participants next year.

On each sheet they need the year group, gender, and event at the top. The grid underneath will be different t for the track events compared to the field events. There will always be the first name, surname and house of the competitor. Along side the these headings, for the field events there should be attempt 1, 2 and 3, the position and the points score for each individual. Fir the track events there should be time, position and point for each individual. The names should be in alphabetical order and there should adequate space for teachers to quickly jot down the results of the whole event. Therefore there should large spaces with easy to read heading and titles.

To produce these sheets for the sports day I must use the database provided and create queries to filter all of the students needed for each event. This can be done by “creating a query by design view” once in the provided database. The a window will come up and the fields can be changed to “house” and “ascending”, next “surname” and again “ascending” below, then “first name”, “year” and “gender”. These have nothing below them. Then in the next 3 fields there would be “event 1”, “event 2”, “event 3”.

There are two ways in which to achieve the data needed however one of them would not give all the data needed. If searching for “Year 8 Boys 200m”, underneath in the row named “criteria” put “m” for male and in the column “year “ put “8” for year 8 into the criteria, and in the column “event 1” put “100m” in the criteria. The reason this is incorrect is because this would only give me the results for the boys doing the 100m for their first event. To changed this to give me all the results for every year 8 boy who is doing the 100m I must place “100m” under “event 2” in the “2nd criteria” row and then in the “3rd criteria” row under “event 3”. After doing this the gender and year must also be brought down to the “3rd criteria” row i.e. type “m” in the 2nd and 3rd criteria rows and do the same with the year. This will give me all of the data needed. However this query can only be used

  • With the School Crest, the heading “Sports Day” and then on separate lines, “Information”- which is hyperlink to the Information Page. “Reasons To Take Part in Sports Day”- this is also a hyperlink to the Reasons to take part in the Sports Day page. “Sports Day Records”- which is also a hyperlink to the Sports Day record page.

The Information Page should include-

  • The heading- “Information”.
  • The date of the Sports Day- Friday 12th July 2002.
