He also uses this software to send letters to individuals regarding his pick up's or business trips. With the help of different tools this software has aided Khalik Rahman In his literacy skills. When Khalik Rahman makes an invoice he creates a table which lists the date of his pick up, Name of customer, where he was dropped off at, duration of journey and cost of pick up. If Khalik Rahman is tired of using the same word so many times the to expand his use of vocabulary he uses a thesaurus, and if he does not know the meaning of a word the he uses the dictionary. Also if Khalik Rahman's work needs editing the he can undo or clear some of the things he wrote. If he finds red or green lines under some words or sentences then he can check them using Spelling and Grammar.

However Khalik Rahman finds it hard to use new versions of Microsoft word as some things have been moved around or changed. Also if Khalik Rahman does not save his work related documents then it all gets deleted.

Email

Email is short for electronic mail. Email means to send, compose receive and store messages with internet access. Khalik Rahman's email account contains an address book which has the personal information of his employee's. Email has very much helped Khalik Rahman with work uses because if sometimes his company cannot get in contact on his XDA II then they email him instead. When Khalik Rahman is on business trips then he can keep his company updated with essential information by emailing them. Also if Khalik Rahman wants to send one message to several people then he can do so by entering the email addresses in the Send To: box. If Khalik Rahman needs to send his invoice to his company immediately then he can attach the file to an email and send it. When Khalik Rahman sends emails then a copy of the email is saved on the sent folder.

The disadvantage of email is that if you email someone and someone else is on the phone then they will be charged of that telephone call. Also junk mail can be very irritating to Khalik Rahman and is unwanted.

Personal Use

The Internet

The internet is a worldwide accessible network. The internet has no effect on Khalik Rahman's work but it does help keep his personal life balanced. Khalik Rahman finds the internet very useful because he can do banking online. Instead of waiting in a queue for hours or looking for a space to park his car he can just bank online. He can also do online shopping rather than going down to the shops. When Khalik Rahman is on a break he books for vacations on the internet, he also gets to read about them before he books it. Khalik Rahman has a lot of interest in music and downloads various types using the internet. Sometimes he looks for new car parts when some parts of his car are damaged, he also uses the internet to search for cars.

The disadvantage of the internet is that Khalik Rahman sometimes pays for the items he wants to buy online but they are not delivered to his home, this is a great loss for Khalik Rahman.

Digital Television

Digital television is a telecommunication system for broadcasting moving pictures. The most famous company that provides digital TV is Sky Broadcasting. Khalik Rahman finds it a great advantage that with digital TV he can subscribe to watch movies at home rather that going down to the shops and renting one. With the help of digital TV he can teleshop as well. Digital TV provides Khalik Rahman with a wide range of channels including radio channels. Some of the channels are from different countries. Digital TV has 24 hour news and weather channel this helps Khalik Rahman know if there is a traffic jam or if there are any diversions due to accidents or road work.

The disadvantages of digital TV are that sometimes Khalik Rahman looses the signal due to bad weather and it doesn't come back until half an hour or more. Khalik Rahman also has to subscribe for channels which can be very expensive for him.

Social use

The Internet

The internet has helped Khalik Rahman keep in contact with family and friends by using email. Khalik Rahman also chats online because some of his friends don't have an email account and are only members of a chat room. Mobile Phone

A mobile phone is a portable electronic device for peer-to-peer telecommunications over long distances. Mobile phones are very widespread in Britain and have helped Khalik Rahman telecommunicate in times of need. Mobile phone have made a major change in Khalik Rahman's because when he was younger mobile phones were not available. He now feels safe to know that he can contact someone at a time of emergency. It is very handy for Khalik Rahman because he is always on the move and his family can contact him at any time. The Advancement of ICT technology now enables Khalik Rahman to talk on the phone while he is driving. He has a hands free kit fitted in his car and can talk and drive at the same time. Because Khalik Rahman is going on business trips now and then he can make calls from his mobile phone than calling from the hotel he is staying at which is very expensive. He can also send and receive text messages and emails.

The disadvantages of mobile phones are that they can be quite disruptive in restaurants and meetings and some ring tones can be very noisy. Sometimes Khalik Rahman puts his mobile phone of and people can't reach him.

Fax Machine

A fax machine is a telecommunications technology which transfers copies of document by operating over the telephone network. A fax machine is a little like a scanner. The scan will be then printed for the person who the fax is for. This is an alternative for Khalik Rahman just in case his mobile phone, internet, home phone and such stops working. With a fax machine Khalik Rahman communicates with his family and friends in and out of the country. A great thing about fax machines is that you can add attachments from his PC to, he can do all this without leaving his desk. If khalik Rahman runs out of ink then he can print out his fax on a standard printer. A fax machine has a black list which contains numbers of other fax machines which he does nit want to receive, so this means the machine wont accept them, this is a very great advantage because he does not need to worry about junk faxes.

The disadvantage of fax machines is that some of them are very expensive to buy and require several steps.

Overall I think that ICT technology has very much helped Khalik Rahman in his work, social and personal life. Because Khalik Rahman is a busy man he can socialise easily with the use of telecommunication devices and instead of just sitting the Khalik Rahman can use his time doing things involving technology. ICT has made life interesting for Khalik Rahman as he can do more things compared to what he did when he was young. His work life has also loosened up a bit with the use of ICT because people used to travel in carriages which used to be a little uncomfortable.
