The Technologies I use.

Introduction.

I am writing this essay to show and compare the technologies I use each and everyday. In this essay you will find out what technologies I use and why I use them whether it is for personal, social or professional use.

Personal.

I use technology for personal use for; hobbies, homework and entertainment. The technologies I use are:

  • Television- I use television for entertainment to relax after a busy day or to enjoy my favourite soaps. I also use it to entertain family and friends which creates great conversation.
  • DVD’s/DVD players- I use DVD’s and DVD players for entertainment to enjoy a good film with sound effects and a better quality picture compared to VHS tapes that had poor quality sound and were bulky.
  • CD player- I use CD players to listen to music for entertainment. I use music to unwind and lift my spirits if I’m upset or to get me in a happy mood if I’m going out at the weekend.
  • Computer- I use computers for entertainment and homework. For entertainment I play games and surf the internet for anything which interests me. For homework I research on Microsoft Encarta and the internet and also use word or PowerPoint for assignments and presentations.
  • Play station- I use the play station for entertainment when I have spare time on my hands. It helps to keep me mentally challenged and I enjoy playing on racing and 3D games.
  • Digital camera- I use the Digital camera for a hobby. I take pictures which I then download on to my computer and modify so I can give them to friends and family.

Disadvantages.

The disadvantages of the technologies I have listed are;

  • Television- The disadvantages of television is that there is never anything interesting or worth watching on regularly. If anything good is on it’s usually on too late in the evening or while I’m at school.
  • DVD’s/DVD players- The disadvantages of DVD’s/DVD players are that DVD’s are very easy to copy and the players can be damaged more easily than VHS.
  • CD player- The disadvantages of CD players are that they can’t always read CD’s and if the player doesn’t have anti-shock and small vibration can ...

Here's what a star student thought of this essay

The report states 'DVD', however this isn't explained. All technical terms should be explained, to allow the examiner to understand the student. As the examiner, may not have an in-depth knowledge of IT.

The report states 'compared to VHS tapes that had poor quality sound and were bulky.'. However doesn't explained this using detail. For example, the report could mention 'VHS Tapes are quite bulky, and this could cause inconvenience due to the lack of space that is available within an home environment'.

In summary, the report is quite poor. The report lists a limited number of technology the student uses. The report states a number of disadvantages, which isn't as technical as this should be. The report lists a number of technology that the student uses, which is quite good for the ones that the student has listed. However the student may have forgotten a number of other technology's, which the student may use. For example, a Mobile Phones is used by the majority of people within the UK.
