Extracts from this document...

Introduction

Using the Internet Searching accurately with Google: In this document I will be searching for help with my Business Studies work by finding information about the stock exchange. Searching accurately with Bing: GCSE Subject: Business Studies Topic: How well are Microsoft doing on the London Stock Exchange? Why this subject/topic?: After ICT, Business Studies is my favourite subject, and I am learning about Stocks and the Stock Exchange currently so it seemed appropriate to choose this subject and topic combination over all others. Information needed from the Internet: The address of the search engine and what I am going to search. Search Engines used: Google UK and Bing UK. ...read more.

Nevertheless, they both gave the same top results. Website addresses of the three sites visited: Website 1 address (URL) - http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MSFT Website 2 address (URL) - http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/news/sharecast/news-detail.html?newsId=3844816 Website 3 address (URL) - http://www.independentinvestor.co.uk/news/ Evaluation of Web sites: Web Address Appearance /5 Quality of information /5 Further Comments http://tinyurl.com/2tvf52 Yahoo! Conclusion

On these websites, I found the appropriate information about Microsoft's recent perforamce on the LSE. Yahoo! Finance was the best site to tell me about their financial performace due to the amount of information. Sadly, for school use, it was hard to understand. Because of this, indepedant investor was preferred for the way the information was shown. It was easier to read and in smaller segments. The London Stock Exchange website was very helpful, but there was too much information and it was not presented in an easy to read form: it was just long paragraphs of information that did not fully relate to the search. ?? ?? ?? ?? Response to the question

In summary, the report is quite basic. The report includes a limited number of screenshots, along with information about how the student is going to find information using Google and Bing. However some screenshots are missing, and some information is lacking detail. The report hasn't included screenshots of the search listings. The student has explained that there have searched a number of search terms, however there is no evidence included within the report.

Level of analysis

The section 'Why did you choose these two search engines' is lacking detail. The report should state the reason/s to why the student has chosen Google UK and Bing UK. The reason/s may be different, the report could include 'I've chosen Bing UK, as there web page updates an high quality image every day. This is quite a 'pick me up' every day, as there's a new image on their homepage'. The reason given to why Google is better is invalid. The student states that Google gives more accurate results, due to that people are familiar with the search engine. This is in-correct, as Google may have more accurate results due to better technology used to find websites.

Quality of writing

The layout of the section 'Searches and refining search's is quite poor. The layout could be within a table which can be easily in putted using Microsoft Word. The table could have two columns, one with the search term and the other with number of search listings.
