Here are the IQ levels of 50 students in years 10 and 11 at Mayfield School.
Here are the IQ levels of 50 Male students in years 10 and 11 at mayfeild school.
This data is reliable because it is from the edexcel website and was given to us by our teacher. To make sure my data was reliable I wrote the IQ levels out twice and I went over them several times to check for accuracy.
Now I have drawn a tally table with a frequency so I can see which numbers are most frequent in the results. In the tally table I used a space of 4 between each one because it would be too big to write out the full range of the results. The tally table helps to show the frequencys of the female students is more on each number where as the male frequency of the male students is less and more spread out. This doesn’t help much in the end result but it does show that the females seem to have closer results where as the males have a more varied results.
As the tally table didn’t show much I’m going to make a stem and leaf diagram which will help to draw up and box plot graph. I hope to get a good look at which group as a better median.
The stem and leaf graph shows that the both have medians in the 100’s but it also shows that the male IQ levels have a shared amount of frequency’s in the 80’s and 90’s where as the girls frequency’s is shared almost equally between the 90’s and 100’s.
I made two box plot graphs, one for each gender. The information used was the median, lower quartile and the upper quartile from the stem and leaf graph. In my predication I stated that I predicted the Female IQ levels would be better then the Males. Although the females results are more frequent in the 90’s and the 100’s and the boys is more frequent in the 80’s, 90’s and 100’s both have the same lower and upper quartile. They also have the same median. From the these results of the box plot I have learned that the results are appering to be more equal then I had predicted. This is shown by the lower and upper quartile being the same and the median also being the same.
So far the graphs and diagrams I have drawn haven’t given a exact conclusion on whether my prediction is right or wrong. To get more evidence on which gender has better IQ levels I am going to draw and cumulative frequency diagram for each genders IQ levels.
I have drawn 2 cumulative frequency diagrams one for each gender. The male IQ levels gradually get higher where as the female IQ level shows a more steepness at the 90. This shows that the Female IQ levels are more frequent in the higher areas where as the male IQ levels don’t show a immediate steepness where as the females does. With this information I can see that the girls IQ levels are a lot more frequent in the higher levels where as the boys is frequent in the higher areas but not as much as the girls.
In conclusion I feel that the calculations have been successful enough to say that the Female IQ levels have been better then the Males. Although my prediction stated that the Female IQ levels would be higher, my personal thoughts were that they would clearly be better then the Males but the have both got almost equal results.
