Extracts from this document...

Introduction

Handling Data-Mayfield High The purpose of this investigation is to find out whether the weight has a relationship with height. The outcome of this investigation will be useful to health services like surgeries and hospitals. The health services can use this information to make human beings fitter so they can live longer. The outcome of this investigation will only apply to the pupils in Mayfield High because the population I will get my sample from is Mayfield High which is a fictions school but the data is from a real school. Mayfield has a total of 1200 students. YEAR GROUP NUMBER OF BOYS NUMBER OF GIRLS TOTAL 7 150 150 300 8 145 125 270 9 120 140 260 10 100 100 200 11 84 86 170 These are all the records of all the students of Mayfield High. As you can see there is too many students for me to use in my investigation it will take way too much time so I will use a Stratified Random Sample of 5% from each year group to ensure my sample is made up in the same mix as the whole school I have also adjusted the number of boys and girls in each year to reflect the balance in each year group. ...read more.

This shows that my hypothesis is correct. Percentage Error To calculate the percentage error the formula is Cumulative median .

  2. Conduct an investigation comparing height and weight from pupils in Mayfield School.

So I can estimate that 14 out of 25 56% of boys will weigh between 40 - 55kg. So if I select a boy at random from the school, my data suggests that the probability of him having a weight between 40 - 55kg is 0.56.

  2. The relationship between height and weight for students of Mayfield High School.

The hypothesis to test will be as follow: "There will be a better correlation between height and weight if we consider boys and girls separately" We already have a random sample of 30 boys and 30 girls collected earlier. We will use that data collected to test the hypothesis above.

  1. we can see if there is any correlation between a person's height and weight ...

    E.g. 50% of 170 students in year 11. 1 5 = 20% i.e. 1 out of every 5 students is chosen. First I have to find a random number between 1 and 5 i.e. 0.989654 x 5 = 4.94827 Rounddown to give the number 5. I will give each female in year 11 a number and I will also give every boy in year 11 a number.

  2. Testing 3 Hypotheses on Pupils Height and Weight.

will not need to use sampling as it all has been done in excel on the computer but if I did have to I would choose to do stratified sampling. Plan For my first hypothesis (I expect that there will be a positive correlation between weight and height.
