Hypothesis

For my coursework I am going to be investigating the hypothesis that “the taller you are the more you weigh”, I think that this will be a good investigation to carry out because the taller somebody is the more body mass they would have to carry around. I am also going to see if there is any difference between the height and weight of boys to see if boys weigh more than girls because they usually do more sports and have more muscles which weigh more and if age has anything to do with your weight and height because older you get the more you have eaten in life and if you do not exercise etc then you would gain in weight and all the things in food that help you grow might make you taller.

I am going to use the data that I have been given from an imaginary school which comprises of 2 year groups of both boys and girls. As the databases holds more information that is actually required I am going to use a random sampling technique this is where I each member of the databases has an equally likely chance of being selected I have to choose the right amount of data I should neither have to much or to little data so the number I have chosen to use is 30 I have chosen this particular number because this is roughly the amount of students there are in a class.

From the data bank I using the random sampling technique I will generate the student number randomly, I will do this by using a calculator I will pick the data by saying if there are 1 to every 86 year 10 girls then I will do the following..

<Shift> <Ran#> z 86 + 1 =

and ignore any decimal places. I will press the = key to get a different number until I come to my decided amount of data that I require and if there was 64 boys I would use the same formula except I would replace the 86 with 63 the.

Data

I used the formula above to get my data. The following data is from the database that I was given in order to select these people that I will use in my investigation.
