The ways she’s dressed and the way she looks makes her seem like she’s trying to be different, which is stereotypical of pop artists, and gives the indication of her genre.
The background is a collage of candy, relating to the album title, making you think of sweet treats and confectionery, which will attract anyone who likes anything sweet, which are most people and teenagers in particular. The colour pink is often associated with femininity, so it is meant to attract girls.
In the songs I have featured 4 different and fairly famous other artist, to give her some credibility, the being her ‘first’ album, people who aren’t too sure whether or not to buy will be swayed by the other artists featured, if they like them.
The first song, Switch Me On, featuring Timberland, is at the beginning because that’s what you have to do before you can listen to the music, ‘switch on’ the iPod or mp3 or cd player; in listening to her you are switching her on. Timberland usually produces most of the songs he is on, making anyone who likes his work want to buy it, because he might have produced other songs on the album, that’s the reason he on the first song, so people see it first.
The songs Neon Lights, Spot Light and No Light are all related, because of the repetition of the word light, and there is an indication that they are the same basic song because of they are each part of song number 2 (i.e. 2.1 Neon Light, 2.2 Spot Light, 2.3 No Light) I think this is effective because people are often drawn to songs with remixes or in parts, it makes them more noticeable.
In the third song, Knocked Out, I featured Common because common is known for being a rapper who often raps outside of rap music. He is also known for not rapping about the clichéd things like sex, money, drugs, or guns. This appeals to people who like common. The title of the songs make you think of more negative connotations like fights and losing.
Love on a ceiling is a juxtaposing title because it refers to love as if it isn’t an abstract noun, as if you can physically tough it, and if it was something you could touch, you could never put it on a ceiling because it defies the laws of gravity. This song makes you wonder what it’s about, you need to hear it to understand.
It feels like sound, it sounds like purple is a strange and juxtaposing title because you can’t really feel sound, you can only hear it, and a sound cannot sound like a colour, only make you think of a colour. You are also left wondering; what is ‘it’, so it plays on your curiosity even more, once again to comprehend it, it must be heard.
The next song, Where am I? draws you in because you want to know the answer to the question, unlike in the preceding song, the artist herself doesn’t know the answer, adding to your curiosity. Also, she could be anywhere in the world, or not in the world, dead or alive, so the song could be anything, it’s completely unclear.
London’s Burning also has negative connotations of destruction and maybe death, which is what you would initially expect the song to be about, but it could still be about anything, it’s effective because it plays with your expectation.
When I lied to you, is yet again negative, but the song title is includes the artist acknowledging a flaw (a lie/s she told) it makes her seem imperfect, and in a way more human, also the use of the word ‘you’ creates a connection with the audience.
Estaré aburrido, así estudiaré una otra lengua ft Daddy Yankee, the ninth song, is Spanish, and it makes it more interesting to have a song in a different language, than just another song, it also appeals to another target audience; anyone who speaks Spanish, or anyone who likes Spanish music because they can assume that it has elements of Spanish style music in it. It quite literally means ‘I was bored, so I learned another language’, which is not a conventional song name, or something that people do when they’re bored. It is featuring Daddy Yankee because he is a quite prominent artist of Reggaeton, a Latin style of music.
The last song, which is usually like a finale for most albums, is called Sweet Tooth which relates to the candy theme of the album, it included Justin Timberlake so it adds the same affect as using Timberland in the first song.
I chose the writing style for the name of the artist to be see-through and white so that the name would be clear. The font Planet Benson 2, is rather curvy as apposed to stiff or formal to make it look more feminine and not formal.
In white there is the text that says, ‘includes hit single knocked out featuring Common’ is there as a draw to anyone who has heard and likes the song so they can be sure it’s on the album.
The record label I’ve used is Konlive, which is akons alternative to HipHop and RnB label, which features Lady Gaga, which gives you an indication of Cherry Lee’s genre.
I think that certain aspects of my CD cover are effective; the song names are interesting and what I would consider to be unique and I like the matching name and Title, which has been done before. I also think that the picture of my artist on the back and front were a perfect embodiment of what I was going for, the sort of eccentric one hit wonder, pop singer, who remains in the Medias eye throughout the duration of her career because of the way she acts. I also think using the candy collage fitted.
I think that the title could have been larger and more eye-catching, or in a more interesting position on the page. I feel like the back cover might have been a bit too busy (maybe too many songs) and the song names could have been more interestingly laid out than just in a list, maybe they could have be scattered or looked handwritten.
I think my CD cover conveys the pop genre well, where the artists is less of an artist and more a product, who’s career lies soley on how they market their image, I hope that can look at my CD cover and assume or guess this.
I’ve learnt that it is hard to create an artist out of nothing, making a catchy or memorable name isn’t easy and an album title is really hard because you want it to mean something. Despite all that, making the song titles was reasonably easy, but in saying that I didn’t actually have to write the songs and title them. I’ve learnt how hard it is to use Photoshop well, but I still learnt to use it. And I am happy with my final piece of work.
