After the major headlines on the television, there is usually a regional news program. This briefly outlines the news of the various compass points of the country and the main headlines from these places are briefly broadcast. However, this is very unspecific to counties, and there are usually only a few stories, before it goes back to a recap of the main headlines.
In newspapers, especially broadsheet, both international and national news are covered. Not only are the main headlines explained in more detail, but more stories are covered which are deemed not important enough to broadcast on the radio or television. However these stories are important nonetheless.
Newspapers allow us to read further into stories of interest to us; we may want to learn more about current affairs in Britain, and from newspapers we can get the full story and can take as long as we like to read it. Also, in this way, it is absorbed better and we understand it more. What's more, even though the paper does cover other stories, we may not want to know about them, but if we watch or listen to the news, we do not have a choice about which news we receive. On the other hand, with newspapers, we have the choice about what we read, and what we do not.
Tabloids cover important news stories too, but also cover stories that people may take an interest in as well, such as celebrities and unusual events or humorous stories. Tabloids, such as The Sun also deal with shock stories and scandals, and sometimes news that is thought to be less important and more casual stories, whereas broadsheet newspapers, such as The Times deal with current affairs and business. Broadsheets are generally thought to be more “respectable”. But does this make the news printed in the tabloids less important? Less significant? People choose what they want to read according to their opinions and preferences, and their views on what is right and what is wrong. This should be respected, and not looked down upon, laughed at or scorned.
People also buy their newspapers according to what their interests are, those who find current affairs and politics to be of interest them them, would maybe buy a broadsheet such as The Telegraph. Those who are uninterested in this, and maybe are more interested in celebrities, problem pages and scandal stories would maybe go for a tabloid like The News of the World. However, with the broadcasted news, you mainly get news coveren in the broadsheet papers, and there are not different programs covereing different types of news.
Reading the news is also ones of the oldest ways of learning about the news. Newspapers were first published in the 15th and 16th centuries, and amazingly, still survive today. Buying newspapers keeps this tradition alive. As printed news has been around for such a long time, getting rid of it wud be forgetting something that is part of our everyday lives.
Newsopapers alos contain stpries and articles that are not heard on the raido broadcasted news, or seen on the televised news. These stories may not be as important as the main headlines, but they are still of interent to the general public. They may be articles about food, fashion, coming events, othere countries and travel, problems and letters written in. there may also be cartoon strips and film and tv reviews or guides, and maybe a crossword or wordsearch. I hardly ever read the actual newspaper part of the newspaper, but I oftern read about the weeks television, cinema reviews, fashion, hair, makeup health and beaty pages. These are forms of news but not what we picture when we hear the word “news” or newspaper”. We would not see or hear these articles because they are not seen as headlines or even news, because they are not about current aiffairs, politics or disasters or events, howver interenting the bpulbic might find them.
Regions, counties or towns in the UK often have their own local newspaper, which is usually delievered free to every household in that area. These newspapers contain stories and reports about news directly in these areas, adverts for loacal companies, local job advertisements, local sports, car, and property advertisements. These newspapers let people living in these areas know what is going on right in their area.
People need to know news. They need to know whats going on in the world, the country and in their aread. They need to know more about the briedf accountsd that the radio and television news gives. Newspapers are the only way or finding out the whole story and the truth about reports, or more about what happened, and also different and unusual stories that you don’t hear every day. Newspapers are an old tradition that should without doubt be kept alive.
