The final outcome for this task is to produce a fully operational website that allows for navigation between the pages, as well as containing the appropriate contents that are stated in the analysis.
THE ANALYSIS CRITERIA
The criteria is very specific in stating what content should be placed onto each page, and what form the output should take. This gives the user a clear idea of exactly what must be included.
The sports day page must include the following:
- The heading “Sports Day”
- The school crest
- The hyperlinks “Information”, “Reasons to take part in Sports Day” and Records Set in 2001
- The above hyperlinks to be placed on separate lines.
The Information page must include the following:
- The heading “Information”
- The school crest (to act as a hyperlink to the Sports Day page)
- The text “Click here or on School Crest to return to Sports Day page,” (to act as a hyperlink to the Sports Day page)
- The text that has been specified to be placed on the page, see booklet.
- The crest should be a small size
The Reasons to take part in Sports Day page:
- The heading “Reasons to take part in Sports Day”
- The school crest (to act as a hyperlink to the Sports Day page)
- The text “Click here or on School Crest to return to Sports Day page,” (to act as a hyperlink to the Sports Day page)
- The text that has been specified to be placed on the page, see booklet
- The crest should be a small size
The Sports Day Records Page:
- The heading “Records set in 2001”
- The school crest (to act as a hyperlink to the Sports Day page)
- The text “Click here or on School Crest to return to Sports Day page,” (to act as a hyperlink to the Sports Day page)
- The text that has been specified to be placed on the page, which are available on disk
- The crest should be a small size
Further criteria are:
- All hyperlinks should go to the correct pages (see testing).
- The “information about Sports Day” points should be numbered
If all of these criteria are fully satisfied, then the task will be deemed to be a total success. The testing section of the task will verify that these have been fulfilled and that all hyperlinks work.
SATISFYING THE ANALYSIS CRITERIA
To satisfy the analysis criteria, I must make sure that the text is appropriate and that all the hyperlinks work. However, it is also important for me to decide what text sizes and fonts, backgrounds, pictures, flood fills or other tools that I plan to use. In my evaluation I can then compare how the final product compares with what was planned.
For the Sports Day page, I plan to make the title Times New Roman (TNR) font, size 60, bold, underlined and red. The reason for this is that TNR is the most simple and easiest to read text. 60 is a large size, and red is eye-catching. I plan to make the hyperlinks TNR font, size 24, and blue. This is for the same reasons of above, and blue is a subtler colour. I plan to leave the background white to aid simplicity.
For the Information Page, I plan to make the title Copperplate Gothic font, size 68, in CAPS and black. This is a little different from TNR, and 68 is a large size. I plan to make the subheadings TNR font, size 30, bold, underlined and red. I plan to make the Programme of events, the information and the hyperlinks TNR 14 and black. This is the simplest text to read. I plan to make the background a mustard colour, to make the page more eye-catching.
For the Reasons to take part in Sports Day page, I plan to make the title Mañana font type, black and ‘best fit’ size to the box. This is available due to Word Art. Behind this title, I shall make the box an orange colour, in sharp disparity to the blue background. These complementary colours will work well together. The text on the page will be TNR 21, bold and white. White text stands out well against the blue background. The ‘link to the Sports Day Page’ will be TNR 14 and bold. This is simple and efficient.
As concerns the Records Set in 2001 page, I plan to make the title Hobbit, black and best fit. Hobbit is original and stylish, and a change to the monotonous and plain TNR. This text will be in an arc, again for originality. The background will be a bright yellow colour; the text will be TNR 20 and black. As before, the ‘link to the Sports Day Page’ will be TNR 14 and bold.
I believe that if I use these figures to their full extent, the task will be fully completed and the website attractive yet practical.
TESTING PLAN
To test whether this task is a success, I need to perform testing. The obvious thing that could go wrong with this task is that the links to the relative pages do not work. Hyperlinks can be complicated to set up; so rigorous testing must be performed to check that they work fully. I plan to draw a table of all the hyperlinks that I include, and tick boxes to be ticked only if they work. These are the hyperlinks that are to be included in the web page:
The Sports Day page = page 1
The Information page = page 2
The Reasons to take part in Sports Day page = page 3
The Sports Day Records Page = page 4
On PAGE 1: - link to page 2
link to page 3
link to page 4
On PAGE 2: - link to page 1
On PAGE 3: - link to page 1
On PAGE 4: - link to page 1
I must also test that the appropriate text and other criteria are included, but this can only be done by visual inspection.
