“As this is not in line with the high standards of quality that Volkswagen has for its products,”
As well as this statement that puts it very frankly that Volkswagen products are very high quality, the mere fact that they are advertising and recalling a product that was 34 years old at the time that the advertisement was shown and the vehicle had such a trivial imperfection (the glove compartment) will immediately make the viewer think that Volkswagen sets very high standards for everything that it does. If the viewer continues to read the print, they will read that nobody has complained,
“Even though no complains have been registered, Volkswagen is making GolfType1 owners aware of this as a precaution”
This statement further expresses Volkswagens modesty and how seriously they take even the most minor problem, even though no body that owns the car has addressed this problem.
The advertisement is very business-like, in that it is almost all text, the punctuation is correct, and there is only a small picture of a car instead of one that takes up the majority of the ad space. It is business like because they are not selling anything and because the message is a serious one: There is a problem with the car.
Clustering is used in this advertisement. The majority of viewers will not read the whole thing, they will most likely scan it, and the things they will see will be: The ‘VW’ logo, the vintage car with an arrow pointing at the glove compartment and the words ‘Product Recall’. By using clustering, the viewer does not even have to read the text to know what the advertisement is about. The viewer will also most likely be drawn to the vintage car and appreciate it.
Colors are used in advertisements to subconsciously evoke certain emotions in people and to make an advertisement more attractive to draw in the viewer. The lack of color in this advertisement is relevant because they are not directly trying to sell anybody anything. It also makes Volkswagen seem relatively humble, because the lack of color makes the ad very low key.w
The problem with the car is very slight and yet Volkswagen not only is willing to, they want to fix all of these cars for free and they advertise a mistake. However, this advertisement is promoting Volkswagens good service more than anything else.
