Before a man can become a priest, he is made a deacon, however, if you are married, the furthest into priesthood you can go is to be a deacon. Soon you are then ordained a priest. Ordination takes place during Mass, and a priest is ordained by a bishop. A bishop ordains a priest by laying his hands on the priest's head and saying the prayer of ordination. The paten and chalice are handed to the new priest, and his hands are anointed with chrism. The priest then promises to obey the bishop and to care for God's people. The next step up from being a priest, is to be a bishop. A bishop cares for all his people and his clergy. Then, a bishop could be elected as the Pope. There is always only ever one Pope in the world. ?? ?? ?? ?? ...read more.
