This means that mother can chose if their unborn baby lives or dies. On average there is an abortion of every 2.8 births worldwide.
There are several ways of carrying out abortion:
Suction
The abortionist first paralyzes the cervix (womb opening). He then inserts a hollow plastic tube with a knife-like tip into the uterus. The tube is connected to a powerful pump with a suction force 29 times more powerful than a home vacuum cleaner. The procedure tears the baby's body into pieces and the hose frequently jerks as pieces of the baby become lodged. The placenta is then cut from the inner wall of the uterus and the scraps are sucked out into a bottle. Dilatation & Curettage (D&C)
Uncommon today and used during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. This is similar to the suction procedure except that the abortionist inserts a curette, a loop-shaped steel knife up into the uterus. He then cuts the placenta and baby into pieces and scrapes them out into a basin. Bleeding is usually profuse. D & X (Partial Birth)
Also used for advanced pregnancies. The cervix is dilated to allow passage of a ring forceps. A foot or lower leg is located and pulled into the vagina. The baby is extracted in breech fashion until the head is just inside the cervix. The baby's legs hang outside the woman's body. With the baby facedown, scissors are plunged into the baby's head at the nape of the neck and spread open to enlarge the wound. A suction tip is inserted and the baby's brain is removed. The skull collapses and the baby is delivered. Sharp and suction curettage is continued until the walls of the womb are clean.
These methods may seem cruel but a baby can have distasterous affects on the mothers' lives. If abortions were made illegal the number of teenage or unmarried pregnacys' would rise dramatically. Also, victims of rape or incest may not want to have the baby, as it would remind them of their terrible experiences. A lot of teenagers would be unable to cope with a baby; a lot of teenagers are getting pregnant at the age of 13/14. To have to bring up a baby could take away any chance of a career and the baby could stop them finding a partner in future.
It would probably also be bad for a child to be brought up by a teenage single mum for example or even a prostitute. Adoption can also be a lot harder for the mother after the baby is born.
However, these women could place their children into adoption but this may also raise the number of children waiting for adoption.
Many people may argue that unborn children aren't human until they can survive on their own but does this also mean that if a child is born and needs to be incubated that the parents can pull the plug on the incubator without any consequences?
I think that abortion is another form of murder but should be used if the mothers' life is at risk and the baby will die anyway. A lot of women regret having an abortion for the rest of their lives; some are even forced by their families to go through with the abortion. I think it is the murder of the most innocent member of the human race, what has the unborn baby done wrong? However, I do think that abortion should be allowed in cases where the mother is under 15 or has been the victim of rape or incest.
But if you are sexually aroused and engaging in unprotected sex you should be aware of the consequences of having a child. Whether it is intentional or by mistake you are bringing a new life into the world. It becomes a life when the sperm hits the ovum therefore you are killing a life.
