Describe the ways in which discrimination was reduced between the years of 1945 to 1955

The following will examine the ways in which discrimination was reduced between the years of 1945 to 1955. I will do this by firstly discussing about the Truman years. Secondly analysing the brown case. Finally describing the Montgomery bus boycott.

This will discuss how the Truman years has reduced discrimination between the years 1945 to 1955. Truman was born a racist. This was because he was born in the south and grew up in a racist environment called Missouri. This was a violent town. The people living in the south wanted to own themselves and newspapers reported ‘its ok to lynch black Americans because it’s just a nigger’ this shows that no sympathy was displayed for the black Americans.

Truman’s uncle was rich and he was part of the Ku Klux Klan. He used to buy slaves and guns and then shot them. Truman became a non racist when he turned president and the cold war was happening. Its portrayed to him ‘America was a better choice when choosing between American style freedom and soviet style enslavement. This illustrates that if some people in America are not free then they are just as worse as the soviets.

Truman didn’t change anything in the south because of state laws but he did pay for the future and opened America’s conscious. In addition he made people realise that a change was required in the future. The changes that Truman suggested included that the government does something radical which is the only way segregation can remove anti lynching legislation; permanent four employment practice committee (FEPC) , this committee should encourage companies not to discriminate; get rid of discrimination in inter state travel; supreme court should be more concerned with civil rights issues.
