There is a group of Christians called living springs who are situated above a café and Christian book shop in Stourbridge. This Christian group help by trying to persuade pregnant woman who want an abortion not to by telling them that there are other solutions to abortion. But they don’t force them not to have an abortion because they believe that everybody has a free will and we can do what we want. They just show you different alternatives to abortion by giving you information on adoption like leaflets and adoption agencies. They also help people who don’t know if they are pregnant by offering pregnancy tests. But if you were young and didn’t want to tell your parents that you were pregnant then they would help by telling your parents for you and helping the whole family through it and if your parents are mad at you for having a baby and you get kicked out or you haven’t got a home and your pregnant then they offer a mother and baby unit where you can stop.
They believe that this is the right thing to do because it is the loving thing to do because you are saving the life of an unborn baby instead of letting someone take a life away.
They don’t judge people who are having an abortion because they might have personal or understandable reasons for having an abortion that is why they forgive and go on the concept of free will. The reason they try and keep the foetus alive because they are human aswell and should be treated equally. They think they should be treated equally because in the bible it says that everyone is special and important because it says even the hairs on your head have been counted for.
A person who reacts totally different to abortion was a man called Paul Hill.
He was an anti-abortionist who thought the only way to get people to stop abortions was by shooting people. He served as a Presbyterian minister in a free church and believed that we should defend born and unborn babies with whatever force is necessary and In July 1995 he shot an abortionist (Jhon Britton) and his armed escort (James Barrat) and was sentenced to murder and given the chance to argue the case he didn’t deny killing them he said it was the right thing to do and that he would rather die a martyr which is somebody who dies for what they believe in. he also said that Jesus would have done the same because it is the ‘lesser of two evils’ because killing one person help keep the lives of thousands of others. In the bible in Paul’s section on agape it says that love is not content with evil and killing the foetus’ is evil which makes it but you could use that argument against saying killing the abortionist is more of a brutal murder which makes that even worse. You could abortion to the just war rules and say that there must be a just cause for having an abortion and it must be a last resort after every other option of not having a baby.
A Christian who responded in a different way to Paul Hill was a catholic priest called farther morrow who believed that we should stop abortion by any means necessary by using only non violent direct action. He never used the words foetus or embryo he referred to them as babies as if they were lives which signify that he believed that the foetus was a life and that life begins at conception. He used non violent direct action because in the bible it says repay no one evil for evil and because abortionists are doing evil you should get revenge by using evil yourself and that you should love your enemies. He got a group of campaigners and gave them signs which had a pictures of foetus’ on and they shouted ‘mummy don’t kill me’. He says that people have come to think that the fact that God made it is irrelevant. As he says here:-
“Britain has wondered far away from God to paganism, selfishness, sexual abuse of all kinds – the worst symptom of atheism is abortion.”
So Christians might put their beliefs about abortion into action by using the same ideas of those here. They could protest using non violent action or respond by using violent action which I don’t think is the right thing to do. They could also be a bit more lenient like living springs and give them a choice in what they want to and if having an abortion is the right thing to do for them then should do it and not be stopped.
