Ramadan, the act of fasting in the 9th month of the Islamic calendar, is a Muslims way of showing devotion to god. The only Muslims exempt from Ramadan are the ill, pregnant women, girls on their period, the very young, the very old, and those not of a sane mind. Otherwise for every other Muslim, Ramadan is compulsory.
"Allah is with those who restrain themselves." [16: 128]
The quote above demonstrates the willpower Muslims must have to partake in Ramadan.
In Ramadan, Muslims can eat in daybreak and after sunset. All day long we are surrounded by food, and Muslims working or at school will have the pressure of a "lunch break" when every one else around them is eating food. However, they are not permitted to do so. This means Muslims must be very strong as they must resist temptation.
In non-Muslim countries, such as England, fasting may be a lot harder because only a minority would be participating in it. This would be different to a Muslim country, where everyone
