Life campaign activists also disagree with the concept of abortion. They disagree with it because they believe life begins at conception. They believe that whether or not the human being is not wanted or handicapped the destruction of the unborn life is always wrong and it should never be carried out.
Although a lot of people disagree with the concept of abortion there are also groups of people who do agree.
The groups who are mainly ‘pro’ abortion are humanitarian groups. They have their own point of view. They believe that abortion is better than bringing an unwanted child into the world. This is one statement that I don’t agree with because I feel that if you don’t want the child, there is somebody out there who does. There is somebody out there who will give the child all the love and affection they could need.
Another group of people who think abortion is right is the ‘National Abortion Campaign Group’. They agree with it because they believe that it is the woman’s choice to either have or terminate the life of the baby. They believe that it is the right of the woman to choose when she has children.
The term ‘Euthanasia’ comes from the Greek word for easy death. Euthanasia is killing a person with their consent or the consent of relatives due to an illness. Euthanasia can be ‘Voluntary’ or ‘Compulsory.
Voluntary euthanasia is when a person wants to die.
Compulsory euthanasia is when other people decide when a person is going to die. E.g. relatives or doctors.
Euthanasia at the moment is illegal throughout the world. It isn’t legal in the U.K. The majority of people who live in the U.K and who want to commit euthanasia would travel to Holland because it is legal there.
The majority of people disagree with euthanasia. One group in particular are the doctors. They disagree with it because when they entered into the medical profession they had to take an oath, which prevented them from agreeing with or committing euthanasia. The name of the oath taken by doctors is known as ‘The Hippocratic Oath’
The majority of Christians believe that Euthanasia is wrong, especially Roman Catholics, as they believe “Life is sacred.” I believe that euthanasia is wrong because there are always alternatives. There is always a chance that the patient could go into remission. There is also expert care in hospices, which is free of charge. In the hospice people do talk to the patient. The patient is treated with respect and dignity and is allowed to take charge of their own pain relief to a certain extent. If the patient is to be maintained in the hospice permanently there are self-catering apartments attached to the hospice where family members can spend the weekend so they are close to there loved one.
In conclusion I feel that both abortion and euthanasia are wrong. We should cherish and protect human life not destroy it. If euthanasia were to become legal it would put pressure on the elderly or sick to take the ‘burden’ off their family, which is something a dying person should never have to go through.
