A man then ran up to him and tried to make him drink from a sponge on a stick.
At last he breathed his last at three o’clock, I thought, no longer will I have to listen to those awful parables. After Jesus had died a soldier walked up to him and stuck his spear in Jesus’ side to prove that he was dead. Later I heard rumours spreading through the crowd, that the curtain in the Holy of Holies had been ripped from the TOP DOWNWARDS. Of course I noticed that the sky was dark, I could see that with my own eyes.
Alter on I talked to a disciple. He told me that the darkness in the sky was God’s way of showing that something major was happening in the history of man. The curtain ripping was God’s way of showing that the barrier between God and man had been destroyed. Jesus’ cry was to symbolise Jesus’ and God’s bond with one and other. After hearing all these things I started to shake. Was Jesus REALLY the son of God, and if so have we all just killed him?
Explain why the Crucifixion and Resurrection are so important to Christians.
I believe that the Crucifixion and Resurrection are so important to Christians because they signify the meaning of our religion. When Jesus was crucified on the cross we are told that Jesus gave a great cry, this was because he bore on his own shoulders all the sins that we have done, he died so that our sins would be forgiven. This means a lot to a Christian because their sins were forgiven and Jesus took the blame for our sins and died for us.
The resurrection is again of great importance to Christians because this is when the son of God rose from the dead. After three days and nights after his crucifixion, he rose again. Many of the people could not believe their eyes and Jesus had to show his scars that he received from the nails in his hands and the spear wound in his side before anyone would believe him.
It is written in the Bible that Jesus quoted, “On the third day I will rise again” this again is of great importance because this is another of his great miracles, he himself has risen from the dead, and since he stated it BEFORE his crucifixion this just strengthens our belief in Christianity.
“Christians do not place enough emphasis on celebrating these great events.” Discuss, giving reasons, why you agree or disagree with this quotation.
I do totally agree with this quotation, not enough emphasis is given to these great events; these events are the backbone of our religion and must be remembered and celebrated. I believe these days are not celebrated as mush as they should because Christians today are greedy. On Christmas for example, presents are given out and this is MAINLY why it is celebrated, not because it is Christ’s birthday but because we get presents and eat too much.
I m sure that if presents were given out on the day of Jesus’ resurrection that it would be celebrated across the religion.
On the day that the Son of God gave his life for our sins most Christians don’t even batter an eyelid. If Christmas didn’t involve the distribution of presents I am sure it wouldn’t be widely celebrated.
Christians today are very greedy and don’t want to go to all the bother of celebrating the death and resurrection of Christ if there is nothing in it for them. This is why I totally agree with this quotation and I believe that we should put f greed behind us and celebrate ALL the events in Christianity, to show our devotion and love for God and his Son.
