About ten minutes into the film, two black guys were walking towards a politician and his wife and once the wife saw the black guys, she walked closer to her husband. The black guys then took their guns out and robbed the politician’s car. From that day on, the politician’s wife hated black people. She complains that the man (not black) who fixed the locks have tattoos all over him will make copies and give them to his black friends. This scene is an example of dislike towards black people.
The Bad Cop has two racist scenes. The first one was racial assault to a black woman in front of her husband. He touched her legs and her body but her husband didn’t dare say anything to the cop. This scene is an example of power between white and black and also dislike of blacks. The only reason the cop doesn’t like blacks is because his father worked as a janitor his whole life and when he saved enough to start his own company, he had twenty-three workers, all black, paid them equal wages when no one did for thirty years and overnight, his father loses everything because the city council decided to give minorities a city contract and his father never blamed the black people. The other scene was in the lady’s office in the clinic. The cop asked the lady if his father needed a surgery if she can write an authorize letter for him. She didn’t agree to the authorization because the cop said some unpleasant things to her.
The scene with the director and his white co-worker was an example of whites power. The white guy told the director that they needed another take because the speech of the black actor wasn’t black enough. The director said it didn’t need a retake but then the white guy kind of revealed his power and the director agreed to do the scene again.
The Good Cop scene with the investigators brother was really suspenseful. No one would think that at the end the two cops trade places. The bad one saves the person he assaults and the good one kills someone. The good cop picks up a black guy and after the guy got in, the cop saw the guy’s clothes were a little ripped and made the conclusion that he might’ve been a bad person, plus he was black. The cop acted too quickly and didn’t wait to see what the black guy was reaching for. It turned out that the guy had the same person figure as the cop and wanted to show him. This scene is another example of racism.
No one can know who they really are until something really happens to themselves. The good cop thinks he’s a good guy but turns out to be the murderer. The bad cop to the people watching was really bad until he saved the lady even if he had to risk his life. Scenes throughout the film clearly show the theme of racism and power.
