"It is not possible to be a disciple in the way Jesus intended" Do you agree?

        Despite us living in a modern world, it is much changed world from Jesus’ time I believe it is still possible for us to be disciples in the way Jesus intended. As we are all baptised Christians we all share the call to live out our discipleship. Our world today has many people who need help and only those in the world who are good enough (Christians) will give it to them. Mother Teresa, Oscar Romero and Maximillian Kolbe are all examples of twentieth century disciples who have become famous because of their actions, but unfortunately that kind of virtue is more often than not the exception rather than the rule.

        But then on the other hand some people find it hard to be ‘disciple-like’, as they fear prejudice and hatred from others. They also let ambition, money or materialism take over and put distance between themselves and God. Yet rich people can still live their lives as disciples of God. In various parts of the world, Religion and personal beliefs have become the basis of war and conflict – for example Northern Ireland and Palestine. These small-minded people who partake in these conflicts are obviously not living as disciples and are also making it harder for others to live as disciples. Others also find it hard to carry out the mission of discipleship as in today’s world people look for hard proof or evidence to back up their actions, but with the Gospels and stories about Jesus we need great faith to believe. As a young person today, I see my peers frowning and looking down on anyone who even tries to live out their discipleship. This hinders people from living out their discipleship, but then again the person who allows this to effect the way they live is as small-minded as those who belittle them.

        Overall, I disagree with the point made. I believe if we put as much into our faith and religion as we put into the other areas of our lives, we would all be living as disciples in the way Jesus intended: doing our best for others and putting God first.
