"It is not possible to be a disciple in the way Jesus intended" Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer, showing that you have considered more than one point of view. To answer this question we need to think about who and what a disciple is. Is it necessary for a disciple to be a 'complete saint'? No, not even the first twelve were, they all had their failings, and for example Peter denied he knew Jesus and Judas betrayed him. Middle

As we are all baptised Christians we all share the call to live out our discipleship. Our world today has many people who need help and only those in the world who are good enough (Christians) will give it to them. Mother Teresa, Oscar Romero and Maximillian Kolbe are all examples of twentieth century disciples who have become famous because of their actions, but unfortunately that kind of virtue is more often than not the exception rather than the rule. But then on the other hand some people find it hard to be 'disciple-like', as they fear prejudice and hatred from others. They also let ambition, money or materialism take over and put distance between themselves and God. ...read more.

Conclusion

As a young person today, I see my peers frowning and looking down on anyone who even tries to live out their discipleship. This hinders people from living out their discipleship, but then again the person who allows this to effect the way they live is as small-minded as those who belittle them. Overall, I disagree with the point made. I believe if we put as much into our faith and religion as we put into the other areas of our lives, we would all be living as disciples in the way Jesus intended: doing our best for others and putting God first. ...read more.
