'Luke's Gospel is the same as Matthew and Mark's Gospels.' Discuss this statement in the light of what you have studied regarding the Synoptic question, your answer should contain both agreement and disagreement with the above statement.

Luke 23: 44- 49 (death of Jesus) and Luke 24: 1-12 (resurrection of Jesus)

Mark 15: 21- 32 (death of Jesus) and Mark 16: 1-8 (resurrection of Jesus)

Matthew 27: 32- 44 (death of Jesus) and Matthew 28: 1- 10 (resurrection of Jesus)

But, one could say that the above statement is untrue because the remaining 800 verses (53%) are completely unique towards Luke. Even though Luke has 47% same as two other Gospels, Luke’s writing is slightly different and his themes, which make the similar verses seem quite different. All of Luke’s sources state events that have been taken among people,  spoken reports from eye-witnesses and written reports. The other two Gospels mention the important events but not so much of the reports from people.

Luke wrote in perfect Greek and his order of events are very accurate, for the others they have missed certain events out and are probably not in perfect order. Luke describes in detail each miracle and parable whereas Mark (for example) writes short descriptions and are mostly facts, it does not set the scene. Luke emphasises the miracles to show that Jesus is Son of God because if he was not then he would not be able to perform such incredible miracles.  Luke also mentions the rights of women and that Jesus was the Saviour of Gentiles and Jews, which is hardly mentioned in Matthew or Mark, probably because it did not seem like the most important factor the Gospel. Luke’s Gospel is characterised as Good News to the world, whereas the other two Gospels are not characterised as such but only prove the existence and work of Jesus.

In many ways, Luke’s Gospel has the same contents as Matthew and Mark, but even so, it is not the same. It only contains similarities.
