Air is drawn in through the nose into the nasal cavity in which the air is warmed to the required temperature and filtered by nasal cilia. Next the air passes epiglottis, which is a flap of tissue that prevents food from passing into the trachea. Then the air comes down into the glottis, which is the opening of the trachea. Inside the glottis is the larynx (voice box) it produces sound by air being forced through it.
