Forces and Friction

Introduction:

Friction is a very common force. Whenever one object tries to slide over another object friction tries to stop it. Static friction is a bigger force than dynamic friction.

Aim:

My aim is to investigate how much force is needed for a box to be moved on different surfaces and when added more weight to the box. I will be investigating the friction force on the surfaces. The key thing that I have to consider whilst investigating is A) the ground surface it is on and B) the weight that is put in the object by doing this I will acquire my results.

Prediction:

I predict that if the box is on a smooth surface with fewer weights within the box, the box will move instantly as there would be less friction occupied. As the surface is smooth the box will not need as much force to pull it as there is less gravity pushing down on the box. On the other hand I predict the box will need far more force to pull the box if it had more weight inside the box with a rougher surface. The more gravity force on the box the more friction will be necessary also when the surface area will be forceful.

These are the results obtained from the first experiment. Now in order to get an accurate set of results I did the experiment second time and these where the results that I gained from that experiment.

Conclusion

By putting my scientific knowledge at the use I have come up to a conclusion that there are usually forces acting on an object. The forces might change the shape of the object or even change the direction it is moving in, it may also slow down the moving abject. The build up of static I caused by friction. The friction force that we consider a result from contact between two surfaces. It then follows that if there is a friction force then there must be force of contact between the two surfaces this means that there must be a normal force as well.
