Test how much difference that putting insulation on a drink has on the temperature after a certain time.

Extracts from this document...

Introduction

Cooling Drinks My Plan: What am I going to investigate? I am going to test how much difference that putting insulation on a drink has on the temperature after a certain time. I intend to use bubble rap. Prediction: I expect the temperature to stay nearer to the temperature that I started it at with the more bubble rap that goes on to it. So the more bubble rap the higher the temperature will stay. This is because the bubble rap will act as insulation and will slow down the heat escaping Method: The method that I will use is: 1. boil water in a kettle 2. Pour the water in to a measuring cylinder up to 210 ml 3. Then pour the water in to a beaker 4. Add a thermometer in to the beaker 5. Wait until the water falls to 80?C 6. When this happen start the timer 7. ...read more.

The results shoed to me that after 11 layers the temperatures did not vary very much at all. Results Of Trials: 1 min 2 min 3 min 4 min 5 min 7 80?C 79.5?C 78?C 77?C 75?C 10 78?C 80?C 78.5?C 77?C 76.5?C 11 79.5?C 79.5?C 79?C 78?C 78?C 15 80?C 79.5?C 79?C 79.5?C 78?C This shows that after about 10 layers the temperatures stay very similar. There for we only did up to 6 layers and then we did 10 again just to compare with the rest Results: Raps Start Temp ?C 1 min ?C 2 min ?C 3 min ?C 4 min ?C 5 min ?C Final Avearge?C 0 Average 80 80 80 74 73 73.5 72 72 72 70 70 70 68 67 67.5 66 65 65 65 1 Average 80 80 80 76 79 77.5 74 76 75 73 74 73.5 73 74 73.5 69 72 70.5 70.5 2 Average 80 80 80 77 78 77.5 76 76 76 74 75 74.5 74 74 74 ...read more.

Conclusion

I know this because there are small patterns in the results that I have mentioned earlier. Conclusion: My conclusion is that there is very defiantly a relationship between the two variable that I have been investigating. Therefore I know that it need further investigations to be done to find out the extent of the relationship between the variables. From this I think that I have proved that there is a relationship between the variables but I do not think that I have investigated enough and got accurate enough results to say for definite that there is or isn't correlation between them right up to 100s of layers of raps. Also I think that there will be a more definite relationship and pattern that I would need to investigate more fully to find it out better. I believe that my prediction was just about right but I did not expect that even no layers would fall so little and there for I did not expect the smaller gap between the temperatures at that had more layers instead of the bigger gap that was shown when there where no layers. ...read more.
