Cooling Drinks

My Plan:

What am I going to investigate?

I am going to test how much difference that putting insulation on a drink has on the temperature after a certain time. I intend to use bubble rap.

Prediction:

I expect the temperature to stay nearer to the temperature that I started it at with the more bubble rap that goes on to it. So the more bubble rap the higher the temperature will stay. This is because the bubble rap will act as insulation and will slow down the heat escaping

Method:

The method that I will use is:

  1. boil water in a kettle
  2. Pour the water in to a measuring cylinder up to 210 ml
  3. Then pour the water in to a beaker
  4. Add a thermometer in to the beaker
  5. Wait until the water falls to 80°C
  6. When this happen start the timer
  7. Record the time after every minute for 5 minutes
  8. Repeat this 5 or 6 times with one more layer on each time

Reliability:

The way I will make it reliable is by repeating the layers as many times as it will take to get two results that are similar.

How I will Make It Fair:

I will make my test fair by repeating results measuring accurately, timing accurately and not spilling the water and finally using the same kind of bubble rap that is similar to all the other layers that I have used.

Control:

The way I will make sure that nothing else affects the temperature is by starting the water at the same temperature as all the others. Things that I will not be able to control is how room temperature that will affect the final temperature. If I had any thing that I wanted ...
