Aim:  To find out if Penguins in a huddle stay warmer than penguins on their own.

Plan:  I am going to put a huddle of boiling tubes into one beaker and a single boiling tube into another beaker then I am going to fill each boiling tube with the same amount of boiling water and check the temperature every minute. I will measure in ºC.

To make it a fair test, I am going to measure the amount of boiling water so each beaker has the same amount, I will also put tin foil over each of the boiling tubes. I will repeat this experiment three times but I will not change anything because everything has to be the same to keep it fair.

My test is going to be safe because I am going to wear safety goggles to protect my eyes, tie my hair back and stand a good distance away from the kettle when I pour the water so that I don’t burn myself.

The equipment I am going to use are as follows:

  • 6 boiling tubes
  • 2 Thermometers
  • 2 Beakers
  • A stop clock
  • A kettle
  • An elastic band
  • Tin foil

Prediction:  I predict that the penguins (boiling tubes) in a huddle will lose the least amount of heat and also gain some more heat through conduction from ...
