To Study the effect of raising temperature on a reaction.

Extracts from this document...

Introduction

Changes of a Reaction To Study the effect of raising temperature on a reaction. I predict that if I heat a reaction it will react quicker because molecules move faster at a certain temperature but if the temperature gets too high then the shape of the molecule will change and be unable to break down the other substance. Plan I will do eight different experiments but the only thing I will change is the temperature. I will use 50cm3 of Hypo and 5cm3 of acid and I will not change them amounts of liquids throughout the eight experiments. I will heat the hypo and the acid to the same temperature and mix them together using the black dot method to time my reaction which is a ...read more.

I now placed the flask over the paper, which had a black dot on it that I had drawn earlier. The stop clock was started immediately to make results more accurate and the time in seconds for the cross to disappear was recorded in a table like the one below. I carried this out from 20 c to 45 c. I used the Bunsen burner with a tripod and gauze to heat the solutions with. I repeated me experiments twice to make sure my results were accurate. Fair Test To make my experiment a fair one, I had to look at a lot of things. Firstly, I looked at the factors that may have affected how well the investigation would work and these were things like using different equipment or doing the actual experiment in different conditions i.e. ...read more.

Conclusion

Conclusion During my investigation I discovered that the higher the temperature the faster the reaction would take place and the more accurate the answer is. This is very clear from my table of results. The reason for this is that the heat energy causes the molecules in the solution to move around faster and collide with other molecules causing the reaction to take place faster and more efficiently. Evaluation Overall I believe that my experiment was done very well and effectively without mistakes and to have conducted an accurate set of results. I could of improve my investigation by using more results and done more tests at higher temperatures to see if my theory carries on to boiling point. ...read more.
