Many sociologists have difference theories and views on what exactly a family is, for example, George Murdock, a famous functionalist, believes that a family is a social group characterized by a common residence, economic cooperation and reproduction. It is important to look after children and to ensure the child is physically and mentally healthy as it is our next generation of adults and vitally important that we teach them the rules and accepted behaviour in society.
