Topic: Causes and effects of sex discrimination in Vietnam.

          Sex discrimination is one of many obstinate problems in mankind society. It is a broad term used to reflect the super position of men in social treatment between women and men. Another term is sexual differentiation, which exists in almost all countries on over the world although the causes and the levels of it are various from each nation. Vietnam is among of nations where sexual differentiation can be easily recognized on many fields. There are three main causes that spawn sex discrimination in Vietnam: the remainder of feudalistic custom still affecting Vietnamese society, the lack of knowledge in opinions of Vietnamese people and the requirement of farming career, and these causes of sexual differentiation lead to three effects: the effect on the home, on the job site and on the society.

          First of all, the effect of feudalistic custom on Vietnamese people has caused sexual differentiation in Vietnam today. First, in feudalism, a man was the head of a family so that his wife had to obey him without question, and that condition is still reserved in Vietnamese families in current days. Therefore, most of Vietnamese people believe that the position of a man is always higher than a woman. Second, the feudalistic custom also lay down that women can not make any decision. For example, a lot of Vietnamese parents think that their daughter must marry the man whom they choose whether she loves him or not. To sum up, it is clear that the feudal attitudes, which raises the man’s position and prevents women from determining their own destinies, create sexual differentiation in Vietnam.

          The second cause of sex discrimination in Vietnam is the lack of knowledge of Vietnamese people. First, many Vietnamese married couples, whose knowledge is very limited, do not know that practicing birth-control is extremely importance to women. Without family planning, women do not have freedom because they can not escape from the endless cycle of childbearing and rearing.
