The time had come for my first day. I felt quite nervous and excited but because I had the interview I was quite confidence. I had woken up half n hour early to dress myself and to make sure I looked smart and well presented. While I was having breakfast my mother knew I was nervous from the way I was eating my ‘corn flakes’ she had told me not to worry but just to speak in a polite manner.
My journey consisted of walking. I had left the house at nine-thirty because it was a maximum of a half-n hour journey. The journey was quite short, so it did not tire me out. I still had a lot of energy to use.
Once I had arrived at the solicitors I had to meet my boss as for he would instruct me for the jobs to do for the day. My boss wanted to take me to court this was very exciting, but then he had a change in mind and had decided to see my office work. I was a bit disappointed. My boss then took me to his office and offered me another time to go to court. Once my boss had left, strangers who were approaching me one by one surrounded me. I had then introduced myself to each one of them, they had also greeted me very kindly. My main colleague was Jennifer but I called her Jen for short.
Jen had showed me everything around the office. Jen also had instructed me to basic office jobs such as filing, faxing, photocopying, transferring calls, making appointments and answering calls. I wanted something more challenging but these easy jobs did pass time. Everyone was friendly in their own way however no one really had time to stop and talk, as they were very busy with court cases and clients. Sometimes I would feel very bored because there was no music! Or any form of entertainment this was definitely a working environment. The only person who kept me entertained was Jen. At the end of the day I felt very relieved and tired the day was hectic and full of surprises, but I was till excited for the next day.
I shall never forget the time when a new student joined in the second week her name was Farhanna. It was a pleasure working with her because she was fun and exciting. I felt relieved having someone within my age group who I could talk to otherwise half of my colleagues were married with children.
The worst experience was a day when it was very busy. An important file had got lost and everyone was going lunatics to find it. The post had to be done in five-minutes. This day nobody was pleased. It was like I was getting in the way. This made me feel a bit left out, because everything was so busy I felt very worried and scared for I might do something which will get my colleagues upset or angry with me, I did try my best to handle situations in a behaved manner.
The last day at work was special because this is the day where I knew I would get the most attention. The day went as any other day the usual office work. But at the end of the day my colleagues and boss surprised me with a BIG! Leaving cake. Also as a reward my boss had given me £25. I was overjoyed and thrilled. The time came where everyone had to leave this was very emotional for some of the colleagues because they did not want me to leave. They though I was very enthusiastic and loved having me their. I also wished luck to Farhanna who was there for another week I don’t she can cope without me.
Throughout this experience I gained much more confidence. I now can express myself if I have any ideas. Also how to deal with domestic situations. This also made me more punctual and energetic. I have also a basic understanding of work life and how hard it is to reach a goal and getting there successfully. My weakness is that I get over enthusiastic when I should be calm. Also I get angry very quickly if situations or things do not go my way or in the way I expect them to. If I had a chance to re-do my work experience I would work on behaving as expected in different times and situations.
For the future I do not think I would stick to solicitors and office work. I would like to have a active job and which I do not have to concentrate as much. When I leave school I would love to be a police officer because it is very active and you can be the one in charge.
