“Knowledge is generated through the interaction of critical and creative thinking.” Evaluate this statement with reference to different areas of knowledge.

As a human race we strive to understand everything around us, discover new things, and create new inventions.  It is through knowledge that we are able to utilise every resource to its fullest potential and become truly aware of how world works. But, this knowledge is not simply given to us, we must work hard to gain it through different resources and ways of thinking. Two types of thinking which partially aid us to generate knowledge are critical and creative thinking. Critical thinking is self-guided, self-disciplined thinking which attempts to reason at the highest level of quality in a fair-minded way. People who think critically consistently attempt to live rationally, empathically and reasonably. They use tools that critical thinking offers- concepts and principles that enable them to analyse, assess and improve thinking.  Whilst creative thinking is a way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective that suggests unorthodox solutions (which may look unsettling at first). Creative thinking can be stimulated both by an unstructured process such as brainstorming, and by a structured process such as lateral thinking.  Many people do not believe that knowledge can be generated through the interaction of both types of thinking but on closer examining it is evident that many areas of our knowledge rely on this interaction.
