DESIGN RESEARCH ON TEENAGE FATHERHOOD.

In my research I would like to investigate whether teenage fatherhood increases the likelihood of juvenile delinquency. For this I am going to use the Quantitative approach for they believe that behaviour depends on external causes, that is, the same cause will have the same effect.

This is referred to as the 'Mechanical Model of Man' and this suggests that external forces have an impact on humans. These external forces are known as casual laws which under certain conditions suggest that people will engage in certain activities & at the same time reveal a connection between two or more variables. In this case the casual law entails that teenage fatherhood is connected to delinquency.

Since we are using the Qualitative approach the type of data we are going to collect must be data that can be somehow quantified. In this case the number of teenage fathers who are/ are not delinquents would want to be quantified. This would be our target population. In the case of this research, it is extremely unlikely to find a list existing of teenage fathers who have committed deviant acts.

It is also a rare possibility that one may use a technique such as the Snowball Technique as it is a rather sensitive subject and is improbable that one person will refer you to others in a similar situation as his. The best possible way if therefore Multi-Phase Sampling which involves taking 'a sample of the sample'. This would mean that prior to your research similar research was carried out by another researcher & rather than re-question the whole sample one would simply choose a smaller, more selective group to represent the target population. This way one would ...
