Introduction

In this business proposal, I had to come up with a business idea that could be successful if I was supposed to do it for real. I chose three ideas to take forward which are a bowling alley, snooker hall and finally a Halal burger van. I will conduct a swot analysis on each one of my ideas to conclude on which idea is the best to take forward.

Bowling Alley

Snooker Hall

Halal Burger Van

I have chosen the Halal burger van idea because I believe I can potentially be successful in this business. As Hounslow the place where I am hoping to set up the business has a lot of Muslim population, which are my target audience, this I believe would be the unique selling point of the business.

Location

The Red Dot indicates where I will park the van. This I believe is the ideal spot because a lot of consumer passes through this place and it is far away from McDonalds which will keep competition low.

Methodology

My information was gathered by survey, this method is a very well recognised method that is often used by businesses to gather research.

Advantages of Surveys include:

  • They are less expensive than interviews.
  • They do not require a large staff of skilled interviewers.
  • They can be administered in large numbers all at one place and time.
  • Anonymity and privacy encourage more candid and honest responses.
  • Speed of administration and analysis.
  • Suitable for computer based research methods.
  • Less pressure on respondents

  Disadvantages of Surveys  include:

  • Respondents are more likely to stop participating mid-way through the survey (drop-offs)
  • Low  in some modes
  • No interviewer intervention available for explanation
  • Often respondents returning survey represent extremes of the population – known as skewed responses
  • Respondents can read the whole questionnaire before answering any questions

Market Research Methods

My research was quantitative because of my small sample; therefore, I had a more in depth understandings of what the customer wants because I conducted it myself. Qualitative research involves an in-depth understanding of  and the  that govern human behaviour. Unlike , qualitative research relies on reasons behind various aspects of . Simply put, it investigates the why and how of , as compared to what, where, and when of quantitative research. Therefore, my research was more quantitative research as opposed to qualitative.

My data was collected by me therefore its primary research also known as field research. Field research is the primary marketing technique used by businesses to research their target market. Field research involves the collection of primary data or information that is new. This is collected through surveys and questionnaires that are made out specifically for a purpose. Advantages of Field Research are that the business can design the research in the best way to discover the particular information required. In addition, the business can be sure that the information gathered is up to date. However, there is also Disadvantages of Field Research, these are it takes time for the business to gather the information and this is also costly and time consuming.

All takeaways, cafes, restaurants, tea/coffee stalls and even burger vans are required to hold a licence issued under the The Licensing Act 2003. Any form of trade between 11pm and 5am will require a license, which is in addition to any street trading license you may hold for roadside trading. Your application will have to be accompanied by a copy of a plan of where you intend to trade, an operating schedule, and details of which licensable activities it relates to.
