How did the discovery of the New World change Europe and Europeans (discuss in terms of economy, political developments and general world view).

monopoly by developing a new western route to the eastern countries but the problem was that this route was considerably much longer than the route around Africa.  During that time, the economy at the times was still based on agriculture and land was still thebasis of wealth.  The problem was that the agricultural productivity was no longer sufficient to feed the population as well as produce sufficient materials for manufacturing.  What caused the situation worse was that the money exchange was based on the amount of gold and silver and the quantity of these metals available for the economy was also decreasing as people traded their gold and silver for Eastern goods.  It was Christopher Columbus that convinced the Spanish to set up a western expedition to explore the new route to eastern countries.  The Europeans immediately believed that someone had discovered a new continent and they called it the New World.  The New World aroused European imagination and soon after the discovery, every country in Europe started to take action to occupy land and obtain resources they wanted.  Having an uncolonized continent waiting potentially would encourage rulers of the countries to take action such as exploring or adventuring.  For examples, Henry VII of England sent John Cabot to explore the coast of New England and in 1500, a Portuguese captain named Pedro Cabral discovered South America.  Finding a new paradise gave Europe a chance to restore their needs and power to rule over an undeveloped territory.  More and more people were rushing to the new promised land to find their happiness and the discovery has also broadened the mind of people at that times.  Europeans were still very ignorant before the Age of Discovery and people generally believed that there were monster-like barbarians in the wild, not to mention if they knew there was a whole different world out there.  People in general care merely about their own living and surviving and they tended to pay less attention to what was happening in the world.  Once when the people of Europe started to get aware of the fact that there was another world which they had never known and they were not the only people who lived on the planet, I believe there must be a shock in their minds to make them rethink about themselves as well as the world they live on.  Their changes of attitude will help them get to look at things in a brand new prospective and their sense of value will evaluate as their thoughts.  In short, their world would be totally different for them but it’s positive that they got to know the world better and could see the world as a whole instead of focusing on Europe.
