1.b. What do you hope to experience and contribute?
I believe that such an involving and proving experience as the Chicago GBS E-MBA will surely grow me professionally richer and humanly stronger. Developing my own abilities by having the opportunity to interact with international business executives of various economic sectors means growing in global professionalism, but moreover it will be useful in developing life experiences and cultural exchanges.
With my especially brilliant banking career, I have had the opportunity to put new ideas into practice above all in a period of great M&A movements in the world banking sector, which in the short term may become even better for business opportunities.
As far as my contribution to Chicago’s EMBA is concerned, I believe I can take a rich store of working and personal knowledge as well as my great enthusiasm and a very good aptitude for social relations.
In my consulting experience I have carried out a lot of projects concerning different business sectors. It is like changing jobs every 4-6 months within a variety of enterprises. Besides, with me, I bring the experience of the bank, where I am now working, which is one of the most developed in Italy for services and meeting clients’ requirements. With a brainstorming effort we have been imagining, and then putting into practice, those services the clients can appreciate in their bank branches such as extending working hours at lunch time and Saturdays, and giving particular assistance such as pension, financial, fiscal and real estate consulting, training courses, public certificates, Chamber of Commerce surveys, concerts and sports events tickets, along with information about specialized health treatment centres all over Italy.
1.c. What are your plans and goals after receive your degree?
Due to professional growth in the next few years, I should become a top manager with my company and assume the responsibility for a business section with a multitude of resource teams to manage. This result can be achieved also thanks to the managerial competences I am expecting to develop in the two years of my Executive-MBA.
In the long term, it’s likely I will become an entrepreneur. I am interested in buying, building and running a large tourist business in Italy. My wife’s family owns a construction company which is now home based (they call it a “low cost building firm”). I would like to apply my know-how there and help them build an international world class modern organization by managing their systems with a global outlook. The worldwide network of Chicago GBS can help me do this.
2. you could pursue any occupation regardless of education, training, special talent, or expense, what would it be and why?
I have a dream to set up and manage a Foundation for the cure of one or more “orphan diseases”. I would like to sponsor research in this field which could allow others to live healthier and wealthier lives.
In the last ten years modern medicine has developed a lot, even though there are still many rare genetic diseases which need to be addressed. Because these diseases are rare, the pproper drugs needed to cure them are not produced or fully funded by large profit oriented organizations. Therefore it is a matter of raising funds for the illnesses which the World Health Organization Foundations and Institutions are hoping to deal with. A selection of suitable research projects has to be done, even if some difficulties may rise from those pharmaceutical industries that are producing medicines only for great numbers of patients.
Currently, there are national and international networks of associations and doctors involved in the specific pathologies, and they have taken public and private initiatives such as realizing assistance lodgings for treated children and their parents, who often live far away from medical centres.
The Foundation I am looking forward to will exist as an international network for the current associations, which are often not well connected and organized. It will help them with managerial growth and install a centralized representative body able to enter into relations with governments, international organizations, and research institutes.
Why all that? I am a Sicilian where there is a big problem with thalassemia a very painful blood disease which receives very little world attention. Because of my family, I have had the opportunity to learn about problems and situations on this subject at international, in particular a euro-Mediterranean, level, and I think urgent interventions are needed to facilitate the recovery of now neglected orphan diseases. Such an engagement would make me feel like living and working for a very important cause in the hope of being useful to the needs of the human race.
I believe that if one really wants his or her deeds to be remembered, there are only a few main ways. One is by means of children and my wife and I hope to have more than one. But all children are “our children", especially those who are orphaned and diseased.
3. (Facoltativa) If there is anything else you would like the admission commitee to know related to your application for admssion, please provide that information here.
I don’t want to seem like a vain person, but with your help, I feel I can accomplish high quality results on a global scale.
I have always tried to be inspired in my actions by those who in the past have been cultural references as far as artistic and scientific values are concerned. Therefore my tendency is to place great emphasis on individual qualities in research. I have benefited form the inspiration and work of personalities such as Leonardo, Fermi, Marconi, and Ferrari who were successful in industry, and proved that Italians can overcome stereotyping. By integrating basic training and creative ability, realism and efficiency, self confidence and firmness, the new generation southern Europeans is confirming this trend with great results in the modern business world..
