Study Focused on the Potential Lasermax Target Market

Aim:

To investigate the setting up of a Lasermax in my local area, with emphasis on the target market.

Introduction:

Laser Tag is a non-violent, non-health endangering, interactive game. Generally there are 2 teams of 2-32 players depending on the size and design of the play arena. Each player wears a vest with sensors on the front, back and shoulders. The vest is attached to a phaser that fires a harmless laser beam. Players accumulate points by tagging other players, tagging the home base of the opposing team, and by tagging mines and interactive targets.

In the game, players have a pre-programmed number of lives or energy level. If they are tagged several times or run out of energy, they do not fall out of the game, they just need to replenish their lives or shots at the recharge station (optional). Number of shots, lives and many other variables can easily be changed to suit the needs of players with different experience levels.

In a team format game, the object is to defend your team home base by not letting the other team reach the sensor inside the base. At the same time the team must focus on penetrating the opposing teams home base. Players should tag as many opponents as possible to accumulate points.

The action lasts anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes in a 1,000 - 4,000 sq. ft. maze like, themed arena. The play arena is darkened with black lights, special effects lights, fog, and loud adrenaline pumping music.

Running, climbing, and touching are not allowed. One or two employees called "game masters" or "marshals" monitor game play in the arena, helping players to learn the game and follow the rules.

At the end of the game each player receives a scorecard. The scorecard is a computer printout with all the statistical information about the game. It shows the winning team, highest personal score, players own score, shooting accuracy, number of shots fired, who the player tagged and how many times, and how many times the player was tagged and by who.

Throughout this coursework, I have assumed that all the cash needed to keep the business running is supplied. It is also assumed that the location has already been provided for me (Based on the questioned’s wants, and available land).

Theoretical Background:

  • I hypothesize that this field of interactive entertainment shall be extremely successful amongst the new generation in Jordan, mainly between the ages of 12 to 16. I believe this because, multimedia entertainment has just been introduced to the Jordanian market, and there still is a gap in the market for a new field of such entertainment to launch. This business shall also have a booming success rate due to the fact that there is no competition in the market, therefore it shall be a monopoly for a brief, yet effective period of time.

  • I believe that the sex that shall use this product more, shall be male, this is due to the fact that this form of entertainment is based on a violent background (however is non-violent); therefore it shall attract more males than it does females.

  • Moreover, I believe that the location of choice shall be in the Abdoun area (I have assumed that the land has been provided for me), this is hypothesized based on the fact that the Abdoun area is the main area where the youth of Jordan “hang out”, and so, they would feel more comfortable if they would not have to change their daily habits just to visit Lasermax.

  • My next hypothesis shall be that the acceptable, yet profitable prices of an hour of gaming time at Lasermax will range mostly between 5 to 8 Jordanian Dinars (JD). This is due to the fact that, Computer networking, the dominant form of multimedia entertainment costs 3 JD, and so, all those questioned shall base their opinions according to their limited knowledge, of multimedia entertainment pricing. The pricing which ranges mostly between 5 to 8 Jordanian Dinars is also a price that enables me to have a rather high profit margin (based on the standard Laser equipment prices).

  • I believe that Lasermax shall be visited most often during holidays. This is because when on holidays, the youth of Jordan will have four basic forms of entertainment during the day (researched externally), these are: gatherings, sports clubs, and computer networking games. And so, based on this, Lasermax shall be visited most often because it is a new experience, and people would want to do something new. Not to mention the facts that the price is acceptable, and the location is popular (assuming that the questionnaire demands were met).

  • Since the consumer is going to be ...
