At the University of Michigan, we are committed to building a superb educational community with students of diverse talents, experiences, opinions and cultural backgrounds. What would you as an individual bring to our campus community? No one individual may completely change a community, but there are certain individuals who will make a tremendous contribution to their surroundings, and I am one of those individuals. Since beginning my educational career, I have always been an active participant in school clubs, societies, and teams. By becoming involved with as many groups as you can, one may experience the full potential of not only the school, but the potential of the individual as well. When involved in an organization, I take it upon myself to make sure that the well being of the entire group is always considered, as well as, the opinions of others. When an issue that is questioned, I feel that it is important to address the issue quickly and swiftly before it gets out of hand. ...read more.

I have my own ideas as to what I would like to pursue, and the field that most interests me is the study of medicine. To me, having the knowledge to be able to save someone's life and give the gift of life to one's family is the greatest accomplishment mankind has achieved. I would be honored to be a part of that spectacular accomplishment, and having a degree from Michigan would ensure me that I would be the best qualified for such a position. More specifically, I find the field of pediatrics to be the most interesting and rewarding. Children are the greatest gift that we as humans are given to experience. Their honesty and curiosity is impeccable. More so, as patients, children can not always communicate how they are feeling, therefor, it is the doctor's job to figure out what is wrong using his or her knowledge based on scientific and intuitive information. I am a firm believer that children are the future of our country and our world, so by being able to contribute to the future I am doing my part as a citizen of our great state and country. ...read more.

Many scientists know that when an egg is fertilized, it is human even if it is not in recognizable human form, yet they still use the excuse that it is only an egg and sperm. It is difficult for me to encourage further study in this field, although the advances they have made are incredible. The ability to replace a human heart without having to wait for another perfect human match to perish is a daunting hope. Therefor, to be able to have an extra heart on hand and no waiting list is perhaps one of the greatest innovations to date. Unfortunately, it is against my religion and my beliefs to kill any living being. As Doctor Seuss said, "A person's a person, no matter how small". This statement, simply put, is a major belief of my religion. While I have not made up my mind yet as to how I would deal with this issue should I ever be faced with it during my career, I believe that when the time comes, I would make the decision that would undoubtedly be for the greater good of mankind without compromising my own beliefs. ...read more.
