Introduction.
According to the QCA website, the AVCE is designed,
"'to be related to National Occupational Standards in relevant sectors and to equip students with up-to-date knowledge, skills and understanding of the underpinning principles and processes of those sectors. Learning is expected to be active and student led, although directed by teachers and supported by professional and employer input."
AVCE qualifications replaced GNVQ's to provide parity of esteem between traditional A-Level studies and vocational based study. They provide foundations both for training leading to employment, and for further and higher education. The AVCE qualifications replaced GNVQ's in September 2000 as a direct result of the Dearing committees review on post 16 education.
The 6-unit AVCE qualification that follows is equivalent to one GCE advanced qualification at grades A - E or to NVQ Level 3.
