Private Peaceful

The book that I have recently read in class is “Private Peaceful” by Michael Morpurgo. The book is about a young boy called Tommo Peaceful telling the story of his childhood memories from the battles of the First World War. Charlie tries to cheer him up. “Piggyback?” They care for each other and have fun. Charlie does everything to protect Tommo; he even gets the cane for Tommo at school.

When Molly arrived, Tommo felt like his relationship with Charlie and Molly grew stronger everyday. “From the moment Molly became one of us, it was like she suddenly joined the family and became our sister.” Molly was very close to Charlie and Tommo. Big Joe also loved Molly. She would read to big Joe at night and sing ‘oranges and lemons’ with him. “Big Joe hugged Molly as if he’d never let her go.” Tommo, Charlie and Molly would do everything together but that soon changed.
