The Book Thief

The Book Thief is written by Markus Zusak and the genre of the book is war. This book is an astounding story of how people must open their hearts in the time of a crisis.

Liesel, a small young girl is first introduced to the reader at the age of nine. She is a bony girl who has been through a lot. She is a deeply loveable person and has very strong opinions. She could be considered a tomboy for her love of getting dirty and soccer. She is a genuinely friendly person and in this story she is known as the Book Thief because of the number of books she has stolen. Liesel is full of life and even during hard times she can't help bringing a smile to other people's faces.

Liesel's foster father, Hans Hubermann is a generous kind-spirited middle-aged man. He is a jolly character who cares immensely about others. He is against Hitler's actions and even gives a poor Jew a home. He's an accordion player and is in the army for a while.

Liesel's foster mother, Rosa Hubermann is a vicious, plump women who swears a lot. She slowly develops feeling for Liesel and the two become quite close. She irons and cleans for a living and can be friendly when she wants to. She doesn't get along with a lot of the other town folk but we soon see a different side of her which is quite merry and she is a unique person with a surprising personality.
