If you were wondering how does the applications perform I would refer you to the most effective qualifications. They help track time off, PTO, most recent promotions. Other performance options are:
- pay grades and positions held,
- training received,
- disciplinary action / reviews
- individual employee information
- management and significant employee progression plans, and
- potential client identification
What is the hardware platform? What is the operating system?
Any other system used prior will be discarded. Since your development system is collected of various components that work together to provide services I would like to introduce a reliable operating system. The requirements of the project are open and looking for the state of the art information system. The hardware platform will be PC based for easy part replacement. The operating system will be a Linux based system like Ubuntu or Red Hat. On Linux systems, all of the development tools are available and you can choose some of these depending upon your level of expertise with these tools and your requirements.
As stated in part 1 of 3 Cost of this system is least of our worries. Since our budget is open, you may choose different types of hardware. We could go for the most expensive, stat of the art processors and accessories to make productivity fun and fast.
Typically UNIX workstations are expensive to purchase and maintain. Instead, PC-based workstations are cheap and the maintenance cost is also low.
Information system’s architecture: data, processes, interfaces and network.
How is the data processed?
The fundamental data structure within the kernel controlling all processes is the process structure, which grows and shrinks dynamically as processes are forked and finished or killed.
The process structure (called task_struct in the kernel source code) is about 1KB in size. On Intel 386 machines, it is exactly 960 bytes. The memory for the process data structure is allocated dynamically during execution of the Linux kernel. In other words, it adjusts according to the amount of RAM found at boot time. Suppose you have 512MB of RAM; then, the default upper limit of available processes will be 512*1024*1024 / 8192 / 2 = 32768. Now, 32768 processes might sound like a lot, but for an enterprise-wide Linux server with a database and many connections from a LAN or the Internet, it is a very reasonable number.
Database & structures
There are options when we consider Linux databases. Sybase ASE Express Edition for Linux is the first enterprise-class commercial database that can take you from pilot to deployment for zero dollars and zero risk. As an enterprise-class data management platform, you can manage growth and evolving requirements without painful, expensive upgrades.
I would consider SQL for administrative purposes. . The SQL language is also used for the administration of the database for the creation and modification of tables, users and access privileges. MySQL database is a very simple database. The interface language of the MySQL database is the standard SQL (Standard Query Language) which permits for inserts, updates and queries of data stored in relational tables. Tables are recognized by distinctive names and hold data in a row and column (record) structure. (Ippolito, 2002)
Network
The traditional network will be LAN- Local Area Network based. Since we are going to connect all locations together we have the ability to use other network options. We will be using laptops, desktops and some portable devices. Certain locations will have the ability to try the new MAN - Metropolitan Area Network. Corporate Headquarters has already signed on for this feature. Below are all the expected interface and/or networks that will be implemented.
- LAN - Local Area Network
- WLAN - Wireless Local Area Network
- SAN - Storage Area Network, System Area Network, Server Area
- CAN - Campus Area Network, Controller Area Network, or sometimes Cluster Area Network
- PAN - Personal Area Network
- DAN - Desk Area Network
Newer network options have gradually emerged over many years of technology evolution. PAN and DAN options have worked great to maintain the integrity of certain file and sharing practices.
