Alfred Hitchcock is commonly known as 'the master of suspense' does he achieve this in the 'climbing frame' scene in the film The Birds?
'The Birds', a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock is about a woman, Melanie, who goes to a small town past San Francisco. Birds that start to act violently, towards her and other Men/Women and children in the town confront her. The film is based on a collection of short stories entitled 'the birds'. The climbing frame scene starts of with Melanie sitting on a bench outside the school as she has a cigarette. A swarm of birds gather behind her on the climbing frame, as she looks back there are hundreds of birds near the surroundings. Suspense is created in this film by awkward silences like in modern films suspense is created by music, but in this film it's caused by silence.
As Melanie drives up to the school there is a long shot I can see the school and Melanie in her care as she pulls up you can hear the children singing happy song in the background. As she enters the school she walks in to the first class room and
