In comparing and contrasting XXX and Golden Eye I have found that both have many similarities but also differences. Both are in the spy genre and are about saving the day, get the girl and become the hero.

In comparing and contrasting XXX and Golden Eye I have found that both have many similarities but also differences. Both are in the spy genre and are about saving the day, get the girl and become the hero.

XXX is about a three time criminal called Xander cage. He is an action sports fanatic and has his own website where he performs stunts. The NSA have been trying to find an agent which they do not have pay for because the agents they have paid for have been killed. Xander cage was randomly selected for the assignment. He is sent to Russia to retrieve information on a Russian group called Anarchy 99 and what they are planning to do. As he becomes more and more into Anarchy 99 he realises there is a girl who wants to leave and doesn’t want anything to do with them. Xander cage manages to stop yorgi, the leader of Anarchy 99, from causing a war with nuclear weapons and get the girl in the end.

Like XXX 007 Golden Eye is also a heroic spy film. It starts of with 007 also known as James Bond plans to destroy a Russian nerve gas factory. As he is proceeding with his mission he meets up with an old friend 006, who is also known as Alec Travelian who has also come to do the same mission as 007. Bond manages to manages to blow up the nerve gas factory but at the same time his friend, 006, dies. 9 years later the man who shot 006 whose name is called General Arkady Grigorovich Ourumov. He and a lady called Xenia Zugavna Onatopp plan to steal a nuclear weapon called ‘Golden Eye’ to use to destroy cities or towns. The boss called ‘M’ tells 007 to go and retrieve the Golden Eye before it does something destructive. As he goes on the mission he finds out that a woman called Natalya who wants to help 007 with the mission. They are then sent to Cuba where the Golden Eye satellite is and go to stop it from destroying London. 007 finds out that his old friend, 006, is apart of the operation to destroy London and tries to stop him. They fight until 007 finally stops 006 and destroys the Golden Eye. He also saves the day.

The heroes in both films are XXX and James Bond.

The heroes in both films are XXX and James Bond.

These things made Xander cages mission more easier. He manages to save the day and get the girl in the end.

James Bond on the other hand was a trained secret agent and knew how to complete missions easily. He manages to get into many dangerous situations but always comes out of them alive which makes him a well trained and dangerous agent.

The women in the films also play an important role as they seem to be very close to either the enemies or the heroes.

Yelaina is one of the women in XXX who is an agent but unlike Xander cage she was a trained agent who joined Anarchy 99 to also find out what they were planning but she got to caught up in their gang that she could not leave but when she met Xander she finally found a way out to leave Anarchy 99 for good and also put them out of business.

Natalya is another women but she is in Golden eye. She is one of the scientists who was working for the Russians but didn’t know that there were other Russian working on another project called the golden eye. She knows about the golden eye and plans to get some help to stop the people from using it.

There are many villains in both films that try to stop the heroes from spoiling their plans but always seem to fail.

In XXX the main villain is Yorgi. He is the leader of Anarchy 99. He plans to release a nuclear weapon in a certain place in Russia to start a war between Russia and another country. He kills the scientist that made the nuclear weapon for him just in case they tell anyone who are not aware of the nuclear weapon.

Unlike XXX in Golden eye the villain acts like one of the good guys but ends up betraying his friends. His name is Alec Travelian but in Russia they call him Valentene Zakosky. After him and 007 were sent on a mission it had seemed to fail. 007 got away but Alec did not. Now he plans to get revenge by using a very destructive weapon to destroy a certain place. London.

In every hero film their must be someone the heroes go to to get their weapons. Well in both of these films there are certain allies the heroes go to.

In XXX Xander cage attends to an agent called ‘M’ who in the film supplies Xander with the gadgets he needs for his mission. He creates a lot of gadgets that explode but can be useful for Xander. Also he creates a binocular that allows you to see what the enemy has got hidden under their clothes.

But in Golden eye there is an agent who also creates gadgets and has been creating them for 007 for a long time. His name is called ‘Q’. He is quite old in the film which comes to tell you that he probably has been making weapons for a long time.

Both XXX and Golden eye have very different opening sequences but both start with an action scene first.

In XXX the opening sequence starts with a lot of action music in the background and we see a man in a Heavy metal concert who is wearing a suit which does not make him blend in with the crowd. He then steels a chip and tries to escape but then gets shot in the head by a group called Anarchy 99 who then take the chip of him. Then it goes into the title screen showing guns and roses and shows the title XXX and then the film begins.

In Golden eyes opening sequence it starts of with the basic James bond opening with him shooting a gun and blood coming down the screen. Then it shows 007 bungee jumping of a dam and gets down it very smoothly and very quickly he manages to get into a Russian nerve gas factory. As he continues to progress more into the factory he meets up his old friend 006. They plan to blow up the station but 006 gets caught. Bond then manages to blow up the factory and gets away. At that moment the golden eye title screen comes up and shows women destroying famous Russian leader’s statues. A lot of guns are used by the women to show them as phallic symbols and smoking. Then the scene sets to nine years later.

There are various weapons and gadgets used throughout the film. Most of these gadgets and weapons are created by special agents in both films.

In XXX the special agent that makes the weapons and gadgets is called ‘M’. He is quite young and full off energy. He makes a binocular which allows you to see what your enemy is hiding under his clothes. Also he puts mini bombs inside of plasters so that the agent who is using it can blow anything up. Also he manages to fix certain dangerous weapons inside of Xander cage’s car. E.g. flamethrowers, rocket launchers, parachutes, missiles, eject able seats, etc. These gadgets come very useful to Xander as he progresses during his missions.

In Golden eye the man that makes the gadgets for 007 is not very young like the agent in XXX. This agent is an old man but still has energy to make gadgets for 007. His name is ‘Q’. He makes a lot of exploding gadgets for 007 and is quite fund of them. He makes a pen that can explode if you click it three times but if you click it another three times you can deactivate the bomb inside of it. Q also fixes missile launchers inside of bonds new car.

In comparing both films I have found that they are both suitable for 12 year olds and above because parts of the films are not suitable for any child under 12. The things that are good about the films are the action scenes and most of the fighting. People enjoy watching these kind of scenes. The bad things about the film are to many phallic symbols which kind of make both films seem sexist but on the other hand both films are great and very fun to watch. I think that both films should at least cut out some violent scenes because some are not suitable for the young age group and they might start to copy them which could lead to an accident. As for everything else about the film I think that it’s ok and would be great family fun.
