In this essay I plan to discover and explain was emotional intelligence (EI) is and investigate its different roles within a group I have once been in. I will look into the group dynamics, investigate if there have been any discrimination within the group and suggest possible solutions we could have taken up at the time to dissolve the discriminations if any were present.

EI is the ability to recognise and understand the meanings of emotion and to solve problems on the basis of them. It can be measured by a test and it has become a popular method in workplaces in order to determine whether an applicant is hired or not. It was first used in 1956 within the American company AT&T.

It’s said that those with high levels of EI have a positive outlook and those with positive outlooks perform better at their jobs. This is probably why companies would consider making applicants take the EI test in order to hire the most positive person to keep the company going with staff who perform well.
