"Poverty in the UK has almost been eradicated. Where it still exists is more a perception than policy."
This essay will attempt to discuss the nature of poverty in Britain and the differing attitudes towards poverty adopted by different political and social perspectives. It will attempt to look at what poverty is, various ideological perspectives and definitions of poverty. How the media and other dominant political figures influence public perceptions of poverty and a summary on whether the UK has almost eradicated poverty and if where it exists is really more a perception than policy.
The Question ' What is Poverty' is the analytical and fundamental approach needed for us to attempt to establish where poverty exists in the UK is it more of a perception than policy.
Political and social perceptions of poverty vary, we perceive poverty through an ideological viewpoint and individually these perceptions of poverty are unique. However our views are not isolated and our attitudes and perceptions are partly influenced by broader social influences and in particular the ideologies of powerful social figures and social forces which receive publicity through media, politics, education and other social interactions.
