Teen suicide has become a major issue in society today. Technology has transformed the world in which we live. Many people consider these developments a gigantic step to help make our lives easier. In reality, the increase in business and production is directly related to the increase in importance of money. People are exposed to a higher stress level in the workplace, in public, and at their own homes then they had been accustomed to previously. Peer pressure from other teens and the expectations of adults and other members of authority continue to cause teens to feel overwhelmed. The pressure to become a financial or political success has been largely placed on today’s generation of youth. These issues might actually drive some adolescents to consider suicide. Other causes of suicide thoughts may include severe depression, recent divorce or family issues, moving to a new community, financial uncertainty, or simply the fear of growing up. In every suicide or suicide attempt case, the reasons vary drastically. However, the increase in teen suicide has made it a main topic for church communities and other groups to speak out against and hopefully find some solutions to the growing problem. I believe that suicide never allows social justice to become part of society because of how it affects the victim and also the family, friends, and neighbors that the victim has left behind.

Suicides among young people have dramatically increased recently on a national basis. In the United States alone, thousands of teens choose to commit suicide.  Suicide, the taking of one’s own life, is the sixth leading cause of death for five to fourteen year-olds and the third leading cause of death for fifteen to twenty four year-olds. In a 1993 statistic, only six children under the age of ten took their own lives. However, two hundred and thirty boys and eighty girls between the ages of ten and fourteen committed suicide in the United States.  To put things in perspective and to emphasize the suicide problem, these three hundred and fifteen child suicides accounted for only  1% of all suicides that year. The suicide rate continues to increase to young adult suicide at the age of twenty- four. In the fifteen to nineteen age group, one thousand five hundred and sixty one boys and three hundred twenty three girls committed suicide.  This age group makes up 7% of the general United States population but accounts for 13% of U. S. suicides. Sadly young adult suicide is even more common then in adolescents. Between the ages of twenty and twenty -four, two thousand five hundred fifty eight males and four hundred and seven females took their own lives.         Suicide in young children is very rare, and its low suicide rate seems to be unexplainable. Despite this fact, it is a universal phenomenon across the globe.  The only likely explanation is that a critical risk factor, depression, is also extremely rare in young children.  The most common method of suicide in the United States is the use of firearms.  Other methods of suicide include someone  hanging or suffocating themselves, overdosing, or jumping to their death

Gender, location, and ethnic background also play a part in the suicide crisis. In the United States, 3.6 times as many teen boys committed suicide as opposed to girls. Since suicide is often associated with aggressive behavior, it is logical that suicide would be more common in males since aggressive behavior is more common in males.  In both males and females, suicides among white American teenagers is more common then among black American teenagers. In addition, youth suicide rates are highest in the Western states and Alaska, while they are the lowest in the South, ...
