Unit 2B Hardware and Software For DCDP

Introduction

My coursework will be based on the International Computer Recruitment firm called D.C.D.P. Ltd. The company finds work for highly specialist computer analysts and programmers. Which are placed all over the world. Two directors formed the company in the early 80’s, and it is their combined initials that provide the company name. There is a main office in Tamworth, Staffordshire, a northern office in Derbyshire and a financial office in Worthing, which is in Sussex.

The company prides itself on using it to the best of its advantage and a large range of technological equipment and uses electronic communications for all correspondence, and electronic funds transfers to handle monetary transactions. This is felt to be a bonus in today’s atmosphere of crime that no cash is ever taken into or paid out from premises.

Structure of the Company

At each branch of the company there are salesmen / saleswomen and a secretary. The northern branch has a part time secretary, but there are full times.                                                                                 Secretaries at both of the other branches. The southern office deals with all of the financial processes as well as the southern sales. The northern office deals with all of the northern sales and the central Tamworth office deals with the Midlands area and over seas.

What the Company does for a livingStage1

The company has a very large Database (20,000 people), of highly skilled Computer Programmers, Analysts and Operators. This Database is called Cardbox. These specialists all have very particular skills. In stage one of the business, the company sales staff contact large Blue Chip companies.

Taking on permanent staff just for the duration of a project is difficult under current employment laws, as they would not be able to terminate their employment afterwards. In addition to this fact, computer skills change very quickly, and existing staff may need months of training before they could design a new system. Companies need the help from this type of specialist agency who can match and put the skills to requirements.

Functional

DCDP would need Windows, Operating system on their computers because it makes the hardware and software easy to communicate to work with. Currently changing over from Windows 98 to windows 2000 (a newer version of windows). Allowing us to operate the computer with less trouble. Windows cannot work without an Operating System. Office 2000 is a newer version of windows 2000, we use WORD most of the time to type up memos, or emails or just to print out CV’s/important documents. We use EXCELL for our records of figures (an accountant would be one career were excell would be used daily). Datasite is a database that stores contact details of all clients. Macafee Virus, this prevents a virus from entering the system and losing loads of important and vital documents, particularly as virus’s can enter through the Internet or even email. A modern is a way of connecting to the Internet to send and receive information via the phone-line.
