Stephen Olasupo Unit 3 Investigating Market January 2010 Part 1 - Purpose/Aim My purpose of this report is to develop a new marketing strategy for HFS Ltd and to solve their existing problems with the decline in their profit over the past few years. I am aiming to create a new product for HFS to revive the business and increase profit. Their current marketing strategy has obviously failed or not turned out how they would have preferred because a company with a solid strategy knows where it is going because it is able to plan ahead. Ultimately I will need to generate a new marketing strategy. I am Emmanuel Oparah. I am 18 years old and I live in Tottenham, north London. A few months ago I completed my A Levels at Acland Burghley School. I took Business, ICT and Media and achieved A Grades in all. Instead of going straight to university, I have decided to take a gap year to be of assistance to my uncles business, Health Food Snacks Limited (HFS Ltd). This will allow me to put the business skills I learnt into practice. I have understood that an aim is a general and long term target. It is a statement of purpose. A companies aim shows why the company is even is business. Objective a more specific short term targets that firms specify when working towards their main aim. They are constrained and measurable. Objectives must be S.M.A.R.T S - Specific They have a strict

With Reference to Two Examples, Explain How and Why the Marketing Mix Will Vary From Product To Product.

With Reference to Two Examples, Explain How and Why the Marketing Mix Will Vary From Product To Product. One example would be to compare the marketing mix of a mobile phone and of ball-point pens. For mobile phones the quality of the product is very important as the consumers buying these goods based on the quality of the good. This is because as the mobile phone is a technological gadget for which people crave only the best and the newest technology, consumers will buy mobile phones taking into regard the quality of the product alone. Though, the same is not true for ball-point pens, as most consumers generally do not regard quality as the main selling point of the good, as this type of good is generally inexpensive and common. Thus people take into account the quality of the product more for mobile phones rather than ball-point pens. The promotion of a product such as mobile phones is very important, as things such as advertising and special offers can persuade people to buy this certain phone over another. As advertising can influence people into perceiving one phone better than another, the advertising of phones will affect the sales. As people generally will not buy a phone which they have never heard of or seen before, as they cannot recognize and relate to the product. Also, special promotions and offers will help sell a mobile phone, as people could be influenced

UK Housing Market

The UK Housing Market Saidul Amin 12LT To what extent do factors related to the housing market actually affect supply and demand of houses, and in turn, house prices? The housing market is a very large market in the U.K. It is also a very important market, as it can change the lives of many people living in the U.K and possibly even other countries. If house prices were to suddenly fluctuate, this could mean profit for some, however this could mean a total disaster for others, especially those who may be looking to get onto the "property ladder" and buy their first home/flat. There are many factors which influence the housing market in the UK. These can be split up into two main categories; demand and supply of houses. The term demand means "the want or desire to possess a good or service with the necessary goods, services, or financial instruments necessary to make a legal transaction for those goods or services." Demand can increase if there is an increase in real income, as people would have more money to spend as they are earning more, therefore more people could afford houses. However if inflation was to increase then people would not necessarily be any better off to buy more houses or bigger houses, as house prices would also increase. If interest rates were to decrease then this would increase demand as this would reduce the cost of having a mortgage. Interest

Assignment Within this assignment I will outline a marketing plan which I have developed Charlys Restaurant, as part of my work for a local consultancy firm. The objective for Charlys is: to open an area within the restaurant which can be used for children for children to play and also for birthday parties by summer 2008. To achieve my objective I am going to have to do primary and secondary research into the want and need for my market plan. I am also going to have to look at a number of things: * The 7 P's * The SMART objectives * The SWOT analysis Overview of Charlys Restaurant Charly's restaurant is a privately owned business which has been running for 18 years (1989) in Coleraine. Since then the owners have opened a number of restaurants with different themes and styles including another Charlys which has recently been opened in Bangor in 2006. The owners of the restaurants are Brain Smyth and Lynda Coulter who have been in business together for 25 years. The restaurant is in Coleraine on Newbridge road which is the main road into Coleraine from Belfast. Charly's is already a family orientated restaurant with the emphasis on American dinning and the whole family having an enjoyable dinner together. This is also reflected in the price within the restaurant, meals and drinks are priced within the budget of there customers in the Coleraine and Bangor area.

Waitrose: Swot Analysis

Waitrose is operating as a grocery retailer in the UK market. 'Retailing is an activity of enormous economic significance to most developed nations. In Britain, 2.5 million people are employed in retailing, comprising 10.5 percent of all employees (National Statistics, 2001a) [...] In spite of its scale and importance, the retailing industry was not initially at the forefront in embracing the marketing concept. Manufactures of fast-moving consumer goods were playing this part. It is only in the last two decades that many retailers have taken an enlightened and proactive approach towards their management activities. In the competitive environment of the retail industry it has become increasingly important to know all tricks of the trade. Competition has intensified yet Waitrose always opts to play fair and provide quality products. Undifferentiated marketing - Sometimes referred to as mass marketing the firm may decide to aim its resources at the entire market with one particular product. Coca Colas original marketing strategy was based on this form. One product aimed at the mass market in the hope that a sufficient amount of buyers would be attracted; although there are now changes in their product line to cater for growing dietary and caffeine free needs of consumers. Undifferentiated marketing assumes everyone is the same and aims a particular product at everyone.

Marketing analysis of a London tourist attraction - Somerset House.

THE BRIEF What is marketing? Marketing is the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably. This is what Somerset house wants. I have been asked by a marketing agency to produce a marketing strategy for Somerset house's new or existing products. In order to produce a marketing strategy I had the opportunity to visit Somerset house where I was briefed on there existing marketing strategies for there existing products. The products include the ice rink, Gilbert collection, Courtauld gallery, Hermitage rooms 3 shops, 2 cafes, and a Restaurant/Bar. Ice rink This year was Somerset house's second annual ice rink opening in the spectacular setting of the courtyard, the rink is London's most beautiful open air skating outdoor rink covering an area of 700 square meters. It is open from the 5 December to 20th of January. This attracts a large audience of young people and increases the chance of people visiting the galleries. Gilbert collection The Gilbert collection of decorative arts is one of the most important gifts ever to be made to the British nation. The collection comprises some 800 works of art and was formed over the past 35 years by Sir Arthur Gilbert. Magnificent European silver, spectacular gold snuffboxes and remarkable Italian mosaics can be found in the south building at Somerset house. Courtauld
